Ok as you may have seen I done a very similar thread but with a car.

I've changed my price due to the thought I'm at college next year so I won't have enough money to pay next years insurance for a car.

How much can I get a
    2nd hand alright moped for
insurance for it (im 17, English)
    tax
Whatever else I need for it.

And are they good to drive? I just want to get from point A to point B faster than walking due to my developing laziness.

I hate mopeds. They started becoming very popular here because you can drive them without a license or insurance so all of the drunks, drug addicts, and other people with bad habits started driving them. They go 30 mphs downhill on a good day and when you get behind one trying to go anywhere in a car and the speed limit is 55, you kind of just wanna run them over.

Lols, they go faster than 30 mph here I think, even if not, better than walking at 3 mph or whatever, also I don't give a fuck about other people driving lol.

You'd have to get a nice scooter to get more than 30 mph. I have followed so many mopeds while in a hurry that is isn't even funny, and they're dicks because they won't get over to let the actual traffic through 90% of the time.

What Nero says. It'll set you back a few grand to get a decent scooter that'll last you a few years and actually hit bearable speeds, the insurance is way less than a car because less can go wrong on the actual vehicle in the event of a crash, but it's obviously more dangerous, as you should know.

Few grand? Mate they be scamming you where you live lol.

My mate got a scooter for £350 2 years back and hes still got the same one, I don't want it to go fast really, and places I'm driving too won't have traffic really so it doesn't matter.

    Moped.

Had one when I was 16, cost me 450 for it, was a 50 but it had a bore kit on it so it was a 70. Went about 65ish and cost me 250 in insurance. Crashed it when I was 17 and claimed on the insurance and claimed I couldn't get to work and got awarded 2000.

Yes they are fun, not so fun when its raining.

    I had a 50cc Peugeot Speedfight 2 when I was 16.

    - £650 for the moped (full years tax and mot when I had purchased it)
    - £100 for the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training - which you must retake every 2 years, unless you pass a higher grade motorcycle test and theory)
    - £350 insurance (1 year, went down £100 after the first year - but I did not continue using a moped)
    - £50 provisional license (If you don't already have one, full UK driving license is also fine)

I fitted it with a 'Leo Vince tt' race exhaust (£90.00 brand new online) which obviously de-restricted it, and took it from doing 35mph to about 50mph on flat. My petrol tank would take around £8.00 to fill up to the top, this would get me to college and back (a fairly long journey considering) for about 2-3 days. When you are 17 you can ride anything up to a 125cc they are a lot quick and usually more reliable in my experience.
As far as riding a moped goes, they are very very simple and you cannot really go wrong .. it's much better than walking and using public transport in my opinion !
Sold my Peugeot after a year for only £50 less than I paid for it, now 3 years later have a car which I cannot afford to run at the moment !

If you need to know anything else just ask.

    Enjoy.

Thats wrong, you can driver a 125 at 17.

Also if you are going to get one, invest in a good chain and lock to keep it secure if your leaving it at college or something because all it takes is for someone to pick it up and throw it in the back of a van.

Sorry Fendle is correct, I mean't to put 17 !

Also just to add (as Fendle said above) definitely got a good chain and lock to put round one of the wheels or to lock to something appropriate, a friend of mine parked his bike up outside a shopping center late at night and someone just threw it in the back of a pick up and that was the end of that !

It'll do you for a few years until you're earning an income and can afford a decent car. My buddy has one, they're cheap to run and they do just for short distance travel - which I'm sure you'll be doing at 17.
