Moderator Guide

Steps:

Create a new account. If you have any other accounts that have ever received reports, even if they are cleared, use a different IP address. You will want a completely fresh start. Pick a good name - something offensive or stupid will penalize the already slim chances of achieving moderator status. (Because all your life you'll have to worry about everyone reporting you any time, when you speak, because it's an offensive name). Trust me, you don't want a Offensive Name, unless you have it in a different language such as 'Merda you'.

Play the game fairly. If you need some quick cash, consider getting some good a few skills.

Obey all Runescape rules. Following this, bite your tongue if someone offends or angers you. You can always ignore them, both by using the right-click 'ignore' feature, and by not caring what they say.

Report unfair or offensive behavior. Use all report forms correctly, do not gloat about it afterwards, and do not submit false reports. Being called "Noob" is not report-worthy.

Be noticed. Being a well-liked player is a good thing. If you can, befriend other moderators. If you have forums access, find kind forum-moderators - never underestimate the power of a good word from someone. While Jagex hand-picks moderators based on ability, there is always discussion between player, forum, and JaGEx moderators about who next is worthy.

Assist other players. Moderators are notoriously good people. Aside from filing reports and being kind, assisting other players is key. If someone is confused or stuck, help them to the best of your ability. Do not be taken advantage of, or give mis-information. If you do not know, say so.
Be polite, and be a good writer. Use proper spelling and grammar. Minimise abbreviations or net-speak. Avoid "L33t Sp33k" religiously; it garners you no respect.
Train your player. Enjoy the game; make this player useful and good. Try to get him/her to at least level 40 combat, as that is a level which begins to gather respect.

Tips

Wait patiently. Jagex may not choose you at all, but under no circumstances should you ask about gaining mod-ship status. If asked, remark "yes, I would be very pleased" or something to that extent, but do not chase around asking for recommendations from different moderators. (Note they still do this as I was a Moderator).

Warnings
Do not abuse your power. Moderators who do this are warned, stripped of status, or depending on severity, even perma-banned. You are a figure of stability in the Runescape community; do not uproot that belief. (Note: 25 incurrect mutes will do the job, just to Moderators out there, 25 incurrect mutes and your fucked instantly.)

#12 isn't true. At all. I've seen at least 5 lvl 3 skiller mods, and I know for fact that there is more.
Nor #11. You don't know when.
Not #2, either. They don't accept mod recommendations anymore, I believe.
"Spoiling" them won't do jack shit.

the guide was kind of basic.

 

Probably an 8/10, but getting mod is only relevant because, You can report somone 1,000 times and not get mod.

 

That's NOT true, If you mute more than 25 people and an hour you get demodded, then remodded if you can prove that's your account

guys im a mod that is a 1/10000 chance they will pick you for doing that they randomly gather good people and then automaticaly pick ranomds out of a list of good people they have chosen.
and when i quite runesccape im gonna mute everybody i see and try and get everybody perm banned just for the hell of i lol.
