what do the middlemen actually do? explain or direct me to the thread that explains their job?

Basically, they help the two parties not get scammed. Here, I'll post how Cosrob MMs (It's a bit outdated, but you'll get the overall concept):

The process on how all the trades will work:

Pins for accounts:

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. Collect the information of the pin.
3. Collect the information of the account.
4. Verify the account with the information received.
5. Apply/gives the pin to the other person.
6. Gives the account to the other person.

Pins for paypal.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. The pin seller will give me the pin details.
3. The person buying the pin will send me the price of the pin.
4. I will apply the pin to the account.
5. I will send the paypal money to the person selling the pin.

Accounts for paypal.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. Collect the account details.
3. I will verify the account.
4. Once the account is verified the person buying the account will send the money to the account seller. (proof of being sent must be given)
5. Once the money is sent will give the account to the new owner.

Accounts for Accounts.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. I will collect the information of both accounts.
3. I will verify both accounts.
4. Then give the new accounts to each owner.
5. Then make sure both traders are satisfied

Rares for paypal.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. I will buy the rare in game from the seller.
3. The buyer will send the money to the seller.
4. Once proof is given I will give the rare to the buyer.
5. Then make sure both traders are satisfied.

Rares for pins.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. I will buy the rare in game from the seller.
3. The other person will give me the pin details.
4. I will apply/give the pin to the other person.
5. I will give the rare to the other person.

Rares for accounts.

1. Both you and the other person will send me a pm with the format above.
2. I will buy the rare in game from the seller.
3. The account seller will give me the account information.
4. I will verify the account.
5. I will give the account to the other person.
6. I will give the rare to the other person.

Remember, if you're planning to use an MM, only use trusted ones that are reputable. Also, if you're talking about OMMs, they are the most trusted MMs in Sythe, they completed a rigorous application that deals with handling many high amounts of money. thanks for the answers, im interested in buying a diablo 3 beta bnet account... and i got scammed once alrdy. luckly i got my money back. but i dont want that to happen again.

Many MMs (me included) don't know how to do Diablo 3 trades. So, it's probably going to be hard for you to find a MM, perhaps there's another website that deals more with Diablo where you can find a trusted MM?
