    Maths Exam Issues...

Hey guys, just a problem I have that I want advice on. Whenever I take a maths exam at school (however big or small), I always do badly or fail it. I understand everything we do in class, I revise and do absolutely fine in the lessons. But when it comes to the exam, I can't do any of it. I'm not normally even particularly nervous, I just can't do any of it. I have no clue why this is. Any explanations or suggestions as to how I can help myself?

Well I'm not sure is this stating the obvious or if it will help, but when your doing your homework or what ever don't use your book or notes just try them off the top of your head, and frequently try questions you done a while ago without look back up on your notes, give your self a challenge and find out what you cannot do and fix it.

Do you have after school or before school help available?

Either that or always review your previous tests.

I have the same exact problem, I find it helps to make flashcards of the formulas and review them. Sounds boring but it helps, you need to just keep practicing until you are comfortable with it.

You're not the only one, and the sad thing is we get to use notes on our tests.

^This. Best way to pass a test is practice the previous ones. Should be a site for them or your teacher should be able to give you some.

Your teacher should also give you test reviews. Literally most of the time the material on the review is the same as the test just written differently.

If you really want to do well, try rewriting your notes a day or two before; it will help you catch the details that don't make sense. In a course with a lot of formulas, it also helps to make a list on a separate piece of paper.

More generally, if you go into the test with the knowledge that you have all the formulas you need, you won't freak out as much. If you do see something unfamiliar, just start writing down formulas - it usually helps resolve the mind freeze, and if not, it's easy partial credit.

Then again, your problem may just be the teacher. I'm a math major, and yet I nearly failed geometry in 8th grade because the tests were sadistic.

    1. Ignore everything the white men (and women) have said and take the advice of an Asian.

    2. Buy a new math book, and keep doing exercises, until you are getting everything correct. Time yourself and see how fast you can finish a practice test. Go as fast as you can, while still getting everything correct. Do not take breaks. Work for 2 hours or more continuous everyday and you will see improvement.

How the hell do you get a 5/100? How many questions were there?
In about the last 5 posts I've seen from you, you've mention the Asian factor you have.

Even though he maybe a racist...his advise will most likely get you the grade you want.>_<

    Learning styles bitch.
Take an online quiz, I use the one on www.brainboxx.com Use this to find your learning style (Visual, Auditory or Kinaesthetic) And the use that style to revise. Tailor your revision material to suit your best way of learning, for example if you are visual, use pictures, graphs, diegrams etc.

Revise from relevant past papers, it's always helped me.
