"Math rock is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords. " For those on this here forum that can appreciate pleasantly idiotic time signatures and spastic drumming - explore this genre of music because its a real treat. Check out King Crimson if you want to hear one of the pioneers of math/progressive rock, or- if you want more contemporary stuff, listen to one of my favorites, Tera Melos; http://www.myspace.com/teramelos

I enjoy Foals quite a bit. I wouldn't really consider King Crimson's first album to be under the 'math rock' genre. Its very psychedelic, atmospheric- and progressive for the time it came out.
