I don't like the displacement mapping. It is just kind of there randomly and doesn't add anything to it in my opinion - it just gives it a messy feel. Also I am not ever sure what the focal is. From what I can tell there is a sword and I am guessing there is a person holding it but I think it is a bad render choice or size choice or something. There is something about it that I can't put my finger on but it is throwing the whole thing off. It may be the render placement, I don't know. It is a pretty decent piece but I think there are some things that could be done differently to greatly improve it overall. Keep it up bro.
I think I know what you're hinting at. It's because even though the main focal, the man holding the sword, is complying with the rule of thirds, the actual render including the sword is so wide that it completely throws the rule of thirds out the window. To make a focal like that work, the sig should be alot bigger as to make the entire focal comply with the rule of thirds. Or sacrifice the sword and move the focal to the left.
I love the first one! i'm a sucker for any electricity effects, i just think the colours could be made a bit more deep, it looks kind of transparent or like Squash when you mix in the water, haha
