    Losing Weight-Struggle

    Well,

I been with a fight and struggle all my life and it seems I have gotten no where. My body likes a certain weight and seems to never go up or down. Just maintains that weight and I need to loose it. Yes I do know I need to start exercising a lot more! But I do not know :[

Right now I am 220lbs and want to loose weight! Height is like 5'7 pretty short LOL. Yes I am over weight( long story of depression and doing a BIG nothing)

here's my big No-No in eating that I have stop many years ago:

    1) Pasta
    2) Bread- slightly eaten occasionally type of healthy sandwich. But loaf.
    3) ALL Fried food BANNED lol
    4) No high sugar drinks-- No soda-- 90% always water with mango juice and cranberry.
    5) do not like cow/pig meat.
    6) NO fast food
Does any one have suggestions on how to loose weight and ideally how much should I loose?

and for the trolls- don't even bother- your just wasting your time.

If I knew your height it would help a lot.

But if you jog a mile or two a day and are active the majority of the day (not on the computer for like 5 hours etc) and eat fruits and vegetables etc, then hypothetically, you should loose weight.

If you're short, then it would seem that you're overweight. But if you're like 6 feet then you really don't need to loose any weight. Maybe 10 lbs or so. Doing sprints can help as well as weight lifting. Sure, you'll weight more but it will be muscle. 1st do the running, then lifting.

You seem to know enough about diet - all I'll suggest on this topic is spreading your intake into smaller meals more often if possible and not eating at least 1.5 hours before sleeping.

As far as exercise, you'll want to be doing a lot of cardiovascular exercises - preferably anaerobic exercises (high paced to the point where you can't talk and workout at the same time) and your fat will be incinerated slowly but surely. Keep it in intervals and don't push yourself past your body's limits.

I'd also recommend doing compound exercises (squats, chin-ups etc) to supplement this - it'll work on your core, overall muscle by toning and making you more strong and muscular while also burning a minor amount of fat.

What age are you? I can tell you that I was pretty large for most of my adolescence and once I hit a certain age I dropped it all like it was nothing.

Simple changes like diet generally help you to lose weight quickly. The thing you must remember is that you still need to eat about 2,000 calories a day. Of course this food has to be healthy and not junk.

Cardio is your best bet for starting to lose weight. Being in college I would guess your school provides a gym to use at no cost. You must also remember that if you do not see any results in a change of weight it could be because that fat is turning into muscle.

Don't bother with tips or anything. I'll tell you right now exactly how losing weight and gaining it works.

Based on your height, age and activity during the day, your body uses up a certain amount of calories. These are called "maintenance calories" because that is the amount you need to eat each day to maintain your current weight.

To find your maintenance calories, use this calculator http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Now the easy part. To lose weight, you simply eat below maintenance, and to gain weight you eat above it.

I would recommend eating about 500 calories below maintenance each day and see how much weight you lose per week, if it's not enough then drop another 200 calories. If you feel you are losing too rapidly then increase calories.

Now, you might say this will be hard to find calories and plan out a daily diet. This is where this site helps http://www.fitday.com/

You can search for foods and it will tell you the calories, if you cannot find your food then you add it as a custom food. When adding custom food, simply check your food label for the caloric information

Sometimes it will not say how many calories, instead it will use kilojoules. In that case just use this site to convert it http://www.convertunits.com/from/kilojoules/to/calories

Something to keep in mind. It does not matter what food you eat. You can eat fast food or soft drink. All that matters in weight loss and weight gain is calories in vs the calories your body uses up each day.

The advantage to eating healthy is that you will feel healthy, it doesn't actually benefit weight loss. Then of course people who work out need protein etc, but for you, just focus on calories

Any more questions feel free to ask

Thank you kabal. I feel like I am 50% on the right direction toward but the other 50% is exercise and it never works out for me. It's sometimes either too extreme or too moderate that does no where.

The current diet works well for me as I avoid all greasy food and do not gain rapid weight if I eat the junk food. I have a family history of weight problems so that's also something to take account for.

I just picked up on something kabal posted, the calories you do take in have a huge impact.. I would still do what you're doing and avoid junk food like fast food and soft drinks, these are High G.I /sugary foods that will have a huge impact on your energy levels.

Nutrition is only one part of the solution, exercise is the next ( there may be other factors, but these two play the greatest part in losing weight).

Now what it seems like you have the foods to east down, you're going to need a weight training plan, cardio and also you need to know WHEN to eat the right foods.

Reading through i'm going to assume you have a really slow metabolism, eating the right foods but your body just stores it as fats.

Muscles also use twice as many calories, so building muscle is a great start, mixing it up with cardio is even better.

I found that overall jogging is a really bad start for any untrained individual, instead cycling or moderate ecliptical is great.

If you have a bike and u can put it in front of your TV, you will be losing calories without working at such a high intensity, the time will go fast, but keep in mind that since the intensity is lower, you will need to do cardio for longer ( not like it will be hard ).

Now, eating your foods at the RIGHT TIMES.

If you can eat 6-8 small meals a day, this is a great plan because it will keep your metabolism working.

I'll finish off to say the best times to eat your 3 main meals are after exercise, + a good weight training program, 6-8 small meals a day, plenty of water and you're on track, good luck

What kabal said was really good, as far as the diet goes.

However, it doesn't do as much good if you dont have a strict work out routine.
Many people say at the begining of their weight loss that they will work out 5 days a week and hit the gym. Many don't follow through. If you feel like you can't commit fully to working out 5-6 days a week then i suggest trying an actual premade work out plan like P90x or P90. Honestly once you've stuck to a work out schedule for over a month you will want to do it, and if you miss it one day you'll feel lazy.

For you i honestly suggest p90x. Best of luck with whatever you do though!

If you don't have much time to do workouts, just take small steps to lose your weight. Skip out on elevators and use stairs instead, it's like 2 minutes longer but little things add up.

FFS the guy wants to LOSE WEIGHT. NOT GET HEALTHY OR WORKOUT. If you actually read what I said then you would know cardio/exercise have nothing to do with losing weight magically.

The only thing cardio and exercise can do, in terms of pure weight loss, is burn calories which in turn helps you get below your daily maintenance calories.

So OP can either run 20 mins to burn 100 or so calories, or he can simply lose those 100 calories by taking them out of his daily diet. It makes NO difference in terms of weight loss.
