    I'm sure others have it.

I don't feel like a tl;dr so I'll make out the basic points.

    - It's gotten to the extent that I sleep in the day and stay up at the night.
    - I feel sleepy sometimes, but I just can't fall asleep
    - I'll find myself doing the most pointless things if I'm awake
    - I tried taking sleeping pills, they made me sleep day and night.

    Any ideas?

Could you list out the activities you do before bed? (drink hot chocolate, play video games, etc.)

I sometimes put my ipod in when I'm in bed, and listen to a boring podcast very quietly.

It helps me keep my mind blank, and I usually fall asleep very quickly.

Don't sleep during the day, even if you are dead tired. Wait until a 'normal' time to sleep even if you feel like dieing. The first time you do this you may end up being awake for 2 days.

Then when you sleep, only sleep for an absolute maximum of 7-8 hours, no longer. If you get to around 9am and you haven't had 7-8 hours sleep, stop trying to sleep.

Repeat process until your sleep schedule is functioning properly.

(Also don't use the computer so much, get out and do daylight activities or get a job)

My advice would be, to make a heavy schedule for yourself during the day, the more you tire yourself out the better, then you will have a great night sleep. By schedule I mean plan to go, play football with some freinds, go workout or go to a friends house to play video games if that's what you like doing, you won't really fall asleep at their house :D

I can never fall asleep either, and exact same thing happens to me.

Sometimes, I just skip a night, and then try and do my best to last the day, then sleep at night like everyone. But, what do I know, I'm 13. Also, try to watch something until you fall asleep, I watch Family Guy and stuff on my laptop till I fall asleep. :)

    Hope I helped.

I've suffered from insomnia for a couple of years now. I'm assuming it's hereditary as it runs in my family.

Though I still have trouble sleeping at night, I've found that working out to your limit prior to going to bed makes sleeping a little easier. Insomnia is usually caused by an overwhelming amount of stress so working out can both release endorphins and wear you out - consequently giving you a better sleep.

It works for me, perhaps it can work for you. Good luck.
