I hate facebook.

It controls over 500 million peoples information.

It sells your information to advertisers.

It is the big brother of the internet.

So I am going to create a solution, its going to be a charity, like the wikimedia foundation (who made wikipedia) and the mozilla foundation (who made firefox)

I have all the skills and ability to make it (I have a team of a few web developers and I have been doing this professionally for a few years now)

However, I know nothing about establishing a charity, anyone have any ideas?

How did the Mozilla foundation (a charity) succeed in getting a large chunk of the browser market share over Microsoft?

More people are turning away from Facebook every day. What happened to myspace is slowly happening to Facebook, its becoming distrusted as it is too powerful, it is becoming messy with thousands of app invites. This cycle will continue until a non-profit who can be trusted with your personal information exists.

I doubt that you'd be able to top facebook, unless you already have serious connections.

Microsoft just has the worst browser ever. Facebook is actually quite good. Stealing market share away from them is going to be extremely hard.

Proving a massive corporation is selling your information is quite difficult. >_>. Things start as just unfounded accusations and then later shown to be correct.

 

Well, they're innocent until proven guilty. I'd like the OP to prove them, if he can. It's just silly, dragging a company's name through the muck. I can post right now and say Microsoft are implanting keyloggers in all computers. Is it true? No. Cause there is no proof.

All these accusations are bullshit. Either prove it, or don't say anything.

 

Ohh come one.. Every site you type your details into sell your info, Yahoo, Hotmail (Microsoft), etc. There have been countless TV programmes on it.

 

How can you accuse someone if you have no proof?

Can I go up to my friend and accuse him of sleeping with my girlfriend without an ounce of proof? Do you think that'll work when his parents are suing me over the assault of their child?

Well, if Facebook sell my information to Advertisers then how come I NEVER get Junk Email, my mobile number NEVER gets Advertising Calls, and we get no more Junk Mail in the form of post than before I had Facebook? Prove that Facebook sells our information on to others please.

I appreciate that you're trying to do something good, but making serious accusations like that isn't a good idea, especially when there is no evidence to back them up.

 

Personally, I hate Facebook because I'm not a very social person. What do you do in it? Add friends, upload pictures, videos, comment on people's profiles/pictures, what else? Not much really. Just my opinion. Note: I'm not accusing Facebook of selling our private information.

Facebook is a great way to interact with others, but it can cross some personal boundary lines. There is only so much I want others knowing about me.

When a company/group advertises, they have to input their target audience. From this, facebook decided which adverts user will get, via their own personal choices on their profile. So yes, it does sell your information.
