http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=595107 http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?p=4709289 Currently Finn is not tolerating anything that may encourage suicide, for example Shall SKill's "Just Do It" post in the Personal Support and Assistance section. Yet here, merely a year ago, he is giving no helpful advice and is far more aggressive in his approach than Shall SKill was. >_<
There's a difference between encouraging someone to kill themselves, and telling them that their life is better than most other people.
I don't think Shall SKill was directly encouraging suicide though, and I'm sure posts like these do not help the cause. In modern day Sythe, if someone would post something like this, they would be forum banned from the PS&A forum. I'm pretty sure Shall SKill's post was very similar to Finn's, carrying much the same message ("live on, face reality")
Like you said, it was before modern day Sythe rules. While I don't defend Finn's actions, you can also take into account the difference in the users. Finn = An accomplished administrator Shall SKill = A member who caused a lot of drama, who was rude, who thought he was pretty much above the site. You have to realize that while Shall_SKill's ban was based on his post, his actions while he was a user did not help at all.
I would like to point out that, that was posted before the Shawn incident which changed a lot of people's perspectives on suicide that had not been affected by a person they were close to doing such. Finn's actions are acceptable. It was also done in General Discussion, where there is no zero tolerance policy. If it was done today, the person would be frowned upon, but it would still not be punished.
I guess that makes sense. I presume Shawn was somebody close to Finn/ others who took his own life? (Sorry, I'm a newfag who only recently started browsing Sythe)
He was the owner of the old official IRC and the founder of the unofficial Ghosts one. He took his own life. Link: http://www.sythe.org/showthread.php?t=722950
That was nice of him to say..It isnt really hypocritical, But very rude? There was no reason for him to be an asshole like that if he personaly felt like that he could of just left it alone and not even post on it.
Don't insult Finn by comparing him to Shall Skill. From what I have seen in the few months I have been here Shall Skill was a pain in the ass. He was always causing drama and then encouraging others to commit suicide. Finn has spend countless hours fixing this site and making it what it is today. Also about the post, Finn was telling him to suck it up. He said that his life was better and he shouldn't be complaining. Shall Skill was just saying to go kill himself. A pretty big difference if you ask me.
Although i wouldn't compare shall skill and Finn. Finn was completely out of line in his comments. He doesn't know the circumstances of why the user posted what he posted and if his life is bad, also it is not up for Finn to say what is worth complaining about and what isn't. In short Finn had no justification for what he said and was an unnecessary ass hole, if you feel he was justified you are kissing ass.
I don't agree with Justin's ban. As for Finn: No zero policy then/not telling him to kill himself It's bluntly true, people constantly bitch over how bad their life is. I don't care how bad their instances are. Until such an individual is on the streets, starving, and not getting by, being tortured, etc. They have endured nothing compared to the Holocaust, Slavery, PolPot, Genocide in the Middle East.
I'm not saying what Finn did was wrong - everyone says shit like that and nobody cares. Life is like that. I was simply comparing his comments to Shall SKill's ones, and the different outcomes despite both of them being very similar in meaning.
