Hacked?

Today, I went to my account management (was going to check the date I started playing because I was interested) and I saw that my account was active. It should have been frozen because I canceled my subscription for the start of school. I checked it out and there is a credit card attached to my account. The numbers do not, however, match any of the credit cards I would have used and 1 month of recurring time was purchased. I went to log in to WoW and it worked.

I changed my password and email address that are associated with my account out of fear that someone hacked my account. The only problem is I am savvy to any kind of tricks that may have compromised my account. I don't respond to scam emails, I don't download anything suspicious, and I have a program that encrypts anything I type just in case I did accidentally install a keylogger.

I just don't know what happened. Was I hacked or what? Anyone have any ideas?

 

Check your account. Anything gone, missing? It's not uncommon for hackers to add one month of time to the account, rob everything on it, then abandon it, but it is rather unusual for them to use a credit card - generally, a one-off time card is the choice since it can't be traced. I think it's an old CC you forgot about.

 

I think you thought you canceled subscription,its probably some noob,just making ur account better?or a friend who knew ur pass?

 

No, nothing is gone. Also, I don't think it's a card I forgot about. I only use a credit card when I want to play right away and then I cancel it immediately. Usually I buy a time card from Walmart or off of Amazon.

I don't think this is it either. I never gave my password to anyone.

 

maybe you had opened another tab while u were still playing thats what happened to me i was shtting my self

 

Your friend knows your password or your password was easy to guess

 

None of my friends that play know any of my account info. We don't even play on the same server.

 

Was anything changed in game?

 

I did notice that some BGs were done. So I guess someone DID hack my account.

 

Normally they wouldn't work on your account if they were hacking it. AND if they did hack it for keeps, they would've changed all your info.

 

any Hacker who works up the account, etc. is dumb. and He didn't even change your info.

So I don't know about this one.

 

That's exactly why I am confused.

Since they purchased 1 month recurring I am tempted to have them buy all my game time until the credit card expires. Is there any way this can come back to bite me in the ass?

 

No not at all, because if he tries to report you for credit card fraud, you can always say he hacked your account. and he might of even used a Stolen CC.

 

Weird. You should probably check up information on that credit card. If you have no memory of it, it probably was someone else

 

Someone might of got access to your account some way... Maybe there was a keylogger and your scans didn't find it?

Lets just say it was a failed hack, the idiot worked on your account, bought membership and didn't even change the password etc..

I came across this on the WoW off-topic forums. This may or may not have been what happened to me, I didn't read into it much. I suggest you guys update as well by going to Adobe.com and installing the latest Adobe Flash Player.

I was looking through the realms that it said I had characters on and found level 1 toons with gold spammer names. I logged onto one and found over 1k gold in the mail from auctions.

 

Haha, well, have fun with his gold. Charge up his CC, remove it from the account and change the info. Free time and gold.

 

He most likely hacked it somehow, and then thought you weren't going to recover it, then use it.

It's happened to me.

 

Its possible that someone hacked your account and then saw you didn't change the password so they thought you quit then they decided to use it for themselves and they put membership on it.
