Again it is all subjective, that is the problem. He thinks no one here is good, another person thinks 2 or 3 artists here are good. It's all subjective.

Let me re-phrase this in two different ways.

It comes down to simply making your own TOS and presenting a portfolio to still receive customers. The only reason I would see anyone requesting the rules in this thread to be enacted would be if they weren't that good to begin with and didn't have a portfolio to show, so why would they deserve to be paid regardless of the work quality?

Secondly, the problem wouldn't be if they're professional or plain out amazing artists, it simply comes down to them invoking their own Terms of Service and handling it how they want, the GFX section doesn't need such rules as implied through this thread and it will only cause more issues than it would ever solve.

The customer has the right to refuse any piece of work if they want too. I'm not going to buy a T-shirt design, and then pay for it when the outcome is shitty, or it doesn't fit the description. If we couldn't come to an agreement, it would be taken to court, where its decided. In this case, the RaSc section.

    1) Have the GFX Artist include it in their ToS

    2) File a scam report. The mods can determine whether or not it should be paid for.

    3) 5-10% Fee for unused graphic work that isn't complete garbage

It's the same thing as any other market. If you don't trust the person to provide a decent piece of work, don't use them. I know people like Kinastethic will work with you until you're 100% satisfied, which should be a rule. It's like a haircut, they work with you until you're satisfied, and if they fuck up to bad you aren't obligated to pay.

Ya this is basically what i was trying to get at. It shouldn't be a rule, but more of up to the artist's decisions and what he includes in his TOS.

For someone to be a professional graphic designer they don't have to necessarily have to be good, they just need to be paid for their work. This makes all the people that advertise their services in the graphics marketplace a professional.

You're right, it's a bunch of kids. So they should be stuck to the rules of the outside world, not some fantasy bullshit. Rules like this teach people nothing besides how to scam imo, somebody who wants a graphic should be mature enough to talk it out with the designer, and if not resort to either method I mentioned above.

I'm skimmed through the first page, and the only way I would support this is if some sort of agreement was made between the graphics artist and user. This means that if the buyer goes first, they can add a clause that says if the requirements they set aren't met, they get a refund. Likewise, an artist can say that they will require that you pay if the work is deemed to be what they paid for, as decided by a moderator if necessary.

(edit) Actually, I'm pretty sure the current rules would support it as long as you describe exactly what I stated above and both users agree.

A refund comes naturally if the work didn't meet specifications.

I'd say charge a small fee.
If the art piece costs say 5$, there should be a 10% upfront fee you can't get back in case the person isn't satisfied. If they are, then pay the rest of the 90%.

    I think that's fair.

This I agree with - I can't imagine any enforceable rules that Sythe could employ that could not exploited or abused by both parties. I think it's going to have to be up to the GFX makers.

i WISH i had known that i wasnt forced to pay for graphics i didn't 100% like. It was my hard money, but the graphics artist just push and pushed me to pay for it. I had lots of more elements and ideas on how he could improve it but he on more then one occasion in 5 minutes said "Done" and exported it as a .png and linked his paypal. I was under the impression if i didnt pay for it i would be charged for scamming so i just made do, but later regreted it because i was upset with how my signature turned out.

So yeah, no support, if the people on both ends are decent human beings they can negotiate with eachother, if the buyer was legitimately intrested in needing graphics, he'll tell the artist what aspects to change, and if the artist isnt a jew he wouldnt care if he lost 1 $5 signature customer. a lot of graphics artists have these huge "1200 orders done" which is thousands of dollars for photoshop jobs..

Any rule that gives the artist at least some sort of cut for un-used graphics that aren't complete shit tbh. If I worked an hour on a piece that somebody didn't want, I'd at least want 10% since it was there choice to use me, if they didn't like it then that's there problem and shouldn't of picked me, and I'll get a bad feedback and it will just hurt my reputation.

So if they pay and get given a 5 minute terrible piece of work, which isn't up to their best standard, they get no choice. The customers always right, they make enough cash as it is, the people always have a right to say no. It's like buying gold, they can back out at any time before they actually get rights to the gold/image.

As said, and I agree just have it be more common place to have the artist still go second.

Just have a ToS that dictates once an order is placed any cancellation after xx days is considered an infraction.

If the buyer isn't happy with the outcome of the artwork those two would have to work it out, since it is an opinion based sale.

Just do a gallery with insertables and attempt to appeal to more audience for cheap, then take customs from more trusted people

I feel that this is a common problem with Graphics. I've made GFX for awhile and people always say - " I got someone to do it for free, sorry! " and I'm like -____- Dude! I spent 4 hours on this and he just says sorry and asks for a refund.

I agree with this although most of the opinions so far won't work in my opinion lol, one person suggested paying 10% or something before the work had even started, but there are 2 problems that raises, first of all the GFX person can abort the service and take the 10% and run, also what if it is really terrible, then you can't have your money back, like suppose it was just this:

    Static
    vouches
    Questing service!

I wouldn't pay for that. lol!

We're going to leave this up to the artists themselves. Most of the popular GFX marketeers have already established their own policies. Personally if someone has done a crappy job on something, but it looks like they've worked on it for some time/tried, I'd suggest you compensate them for their time but not pay in full.

    Denied.
