I bought the cd.
the cd refused to work.
I dled a torrent, cd still refused to work.
I uninstalled it like 3 minutes after installing..

Gasp?

 

That sucks for you. See what evidence they have against you and then try to explain yourself.

Who would have thought, after all of this, I would get nailed to the floor for something I have actually payed for but refused to work?

 

If you can prove that you were the rightful owner of the CD, you should be protected by US Copyright Laws. Just tell the truth (if this is it). BTW, what do you mean when you say the torrent CD didn't work? If you still want the CD, check out my Torrents Guide...it's in my sig. Honestly, you're protected by law. Shoulda used Peer Guardian :O. Honestly, you should be fine...good luck though.

 

If you've bought the CD (and have proof that you bought it before this whole torrent thing) then you'll be fine. Since if you had a CD your allowed to burn it as many times for your own personal use, downloading it is like the same concept.

That sucks how you got caught though, getting caught must be rare though. I torrented shitloads and never got caught for anything.

Explain yourself, properly, no emotion or any of that bullshit, make it seem like you were doing the logical and proper thing to do, that anyone else would do, then once they let you off, tell them to go fuck themselves. Where did you buy the disc from anyway?

You might also be able to show them that the disc doesn't actually work, to prove that that's why you did download the torrent.

I am very good at doing exactly that.
I do it with teachers all the time when I forget to turn soemthing in, but "No excuses!" teachers are different than a corporate lawyer/judge.

And also, who the hell even plays san andreas on comp anymore?

I don't know if you can't get caught. A torrent is a separate issue. Illegal downloading is illegal. If you're caught, just suck it up and pay the consequences as long as you can't argue out of it.

By charter you mean school? Who caught you?

IDK, Chrater caught me downloading Photoshop CS3. I just told them I had a virus or something lol. Since I switched to AT&T I haven't been busted. Maybe it's because I've been a bit smarter, but still..
