    Ethernet cable.

I recently setup one of my old computers. Still has windows 98. Got it all
set-up and when i went to plug in the ethernet cable there was no plugin spot
for it. So i went to best buy to ask them, and they said i need an ethernet card
($40) Im just wondering before i buy it, how to install it. Is it hard?

Also, I remember when i first got broadband (cable) internet they did some stuff on my computer. Do i need to setup that stuff to for this new comp, or can i just plug in the cable and be good?

    Thanks,
    HockeyKid09

To install it its not hard at all:
    1. Power down PC and open computer case.

    2. Dont touch anything. Find this slot http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn...edia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/ca/Pci-slots.jpg
    then insert the card.

    And your done.

well thats your choice..... XP cost around $100 depending on where you get it. But I wouldent reccomend upgrading it will make your PC much slower and windwos 98 is good. But xp is easy to pirate

How old is your computer? Do you have the specs? It will help us decide if you should stay with 98 or upgrade.

Chances are as previous comments your Win98 machine may not be worth upgrading, min req's i think are 233mhz processor, 128mg RAM and at least 1.5GB free diskspace. Even tho thats the Microsoft official line i personally wouldnt run xp without at least 512mg RAM and a faster processor. Equally tho you should be aware at the fact there is no microsoft support for win98 in terms of security or patches and it is far from a secure OS to run in todays climate on the internet. Just my personal opinion tho..

As a learning experience you could turn that computer into a server for file hosting (ie a linux distrobution and a samba server) all you would need is a NIC and 1 disk for burning the distrobution, if you wanted to learn something new

also for computer parts www.newegg.com is unparalleled for service and quality :D
