As many of you know, the driving age in the United States is Usually(this edit is just for you masterkilller)16. In most states to try and get your license you need to have fifty or more driving hours logged. Some people want to change the age to 18, and have more hours logged to help prevent crashes. I can see both views on this. Raising the age will/could prevent the death amount. This would also make it a lot harder for teens to work, or be active in sports or activities in general. Do you guys think the driving age should be raised? Lower? Express your thoughts.

16 is a good age, I don't think it should be changed.

I dont see how raising the driving age prevents accidents. Thats a false, untested, biased statement. You are more likely to drink when you are 18 then 16. If you start driving at an earlier age, you will be able to handle the situation better. Most people have taken their first drink by 21, and by then they can drive. I would much rather get in a car with a drunk person at 5 years of expieriance then a drunk person with only 3.

Also there is no "US driving age" anymore. Basically, each state has their own laws governing over what age should be allowed to drive. Here in GA, it has been raised from 16 to 17, but the drivers permit is still at 15. This small increase might affect the deaths slightly, but this also gets into way of college submitions etc.

US does NOT have an age of 16, it is just most common. How about get your facts straight please?- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_Age#United_States

Nope, in Alaska it is only 14 to get your permit. Here in WA, to get your license, you need 6 months with a permit and you need 10 night driving hours and 40 day hours. I think that is good enough.

i wana move to WA then! i think 16 is a good age, besides the fact that here they changed it so you get your permit at 16 but you cant get your license until 18.

That sucks. You can get your permit at age 15. But if you get your permit (and get all 50 hours in) once you turn 15, you still have 6 months to wait to get your license.

I think that around 16-18 is a good age...if I really thought about it, wow, 16 year olds are just people in Grade 10, and that's quite young, very young. Accidents happen to these young people, so I think it should be raised to 17.

Still, some of them can drive quite well.

I think it should be moved to 18. 16 year olds are jus too irresponsible these days.

Sorry but erm your the one getting facts from Wikipedia...

AND in case you didn't read it, I said I saw both sides of the arguement. I never said I agreed with the people trying to raise the age. And just for you, I'll change it to "Most common" instead of US age. By the way, in case you did not notice, in the next sentence I said "In most states you have to..." showing how I knew the requirements varried.

i think that you should be able to get your permit at 15 and your license at atleast 16. i hate that where i live you to be 16 and have to wait 6 months after passing tests. its anoying. you should have to past the tests at 15 and get your license after like 8 months or somthing. the accident rate may go up tho so 16 is good for now, atleast to get a permit...

Heh, your all so lucky.. Having age's of 14 - 16 and stuff to drive. Uhh, in England at the moment it is 17 to aquire a full driving licence. You also have to take a Theory test which is 50 questions, and you must answer 43+ to pass. You also have to take a hazard perception test, which is a series of short clips, showing you from the drivers view, which you will have to click the mouse button everytime you see a hazard.

They have decided to make it 18 now, to be able to learn to drive and aquire a licence here in England. It's due to come into action soon and i'm dreading it. As I am 17 :(

in all honesty, i believe that the driving age should be 16 and remain at 16, some people dont mature untill 16-18 and we do not want unmature kids driving that would 1. not be safe 2. not be cool 3. ... its true and you know it lol.

shouldn't be changed, I'm going to be 16 in february, they better not change the law to 18.

anyways, we have enough decision making skills on how we drive, and if we are dumb enough now, then what makes us different in 2 more years?
