Well the problem is fixed. I fixed the problem with a simple rollback and it worked..

Hmm, I have had the same problem before recently. (desktop background only) I wasn't quite sure of what it was so I ran a multitude of tests.

    What I suggest in doing:

Run a anti virus program like avast!
Run a anti spyware program like spybot S&D
Run a anti rootkit program like AVG anti rootkit

If they don't find anything that fixes it.

    Download hijackthis. http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php#hijackthis

    Run it.
Hit do a system scan and save log file.
Copy the text from the log file and post it here so I can analyze it.

Sounds like a virus to me, Virus scanners don't always pickup viruses until they are installed. I myself like Avast! because when you install programs or any files are edited it scans them as it is happening to find anything that could be a virus.

I am not totally sure of what it was but i am pretty sure it was either a root kit or a virus. It was actually quite a while ago (18 months or so ago) and I didn't really know much about fixing computers back then so I kinda gave up and backed up all my data and did a format. Although now I know a hell of a lot more so I am pretty sure I should be able to get this sorted for you.

Thanks. I'm downloading a bunch of bots, etc to try to figure out exactly what it is.

Well can you run the hijack this log for me? I might be able to sort the problem easier for you.

EDIT: Oh I should mention I just added you on MSN, so the email address with nate(don't want to give my full email on public parts of the forums) in it will be me.

By the sounds of it, the firewall is stopping everything from initializing. Ever thought of doing a system rollback?

Ahahahah! Defragmenting your computer only speeds up HDD speed, as it just moves files into the correct folders.
