Combat Help

Hey guys, so after a long ass time I decided to go train an old pure, but as I was training, I noticed ALL of my levels going up. Was I just ridiculously high, or is there really no way to train just one thing at a time? (attack, strength, defense)

Please tell me I was just really high, because if this is correct, I think I'm going to be quitting again. All help would be appreciated, thanks!
