I was in a similar situation. I bought a laptop on craigslist that was stolen. When I logged into my college's network the police saw the stolen MAC address and they interrogated me. I told them I got in on craigslist and they were very skeptical at first, but luckily I had emails to show that I contacted the guy on craigslist. I had to give the laptop back out $250.

If the laptop is stolen and the police are able to find the laptop's owner. Then the owner will get the laptop back. Which would mean the guy who you sold the laptop to deserves his money back. You should be as honest and detailed as possible if you talk to the police because you didn't steal it, and they can't tie you to were it got stolen.

TLDR if police find owner youll have to return money, be honest to not get arrested

Do you know how long that took to happen? Like from the time up logged in and they found it to returning it? I asked to meet him inrl and he said paypal only

There was already a police report for the stolen laptop I bought. After I logged in the police contacted me the next day It sounds like your guy is bluffing he probably never went to the police, or maybe he did go to them but they couldn't prove it was stolen. If the owner of the laptop filed a police report saying it was stolen they already would have contacted you.

tldr dont give him anything unless he's with the police

Don't worry about it unless you're guilty of something. If what you said is the truth, live your life as usual and don't worry about this further. If it does come up with the police, tell them what happened and you'll be fine.

2. These things happen all the time. You're not going to get into any trouble whatsoever.

I said whatever and minutes go by and he repsonds just send me money and ill drop the case with police. What do i do? What if it was stolen i cant prove that i bought it because i cant find the fucking guy that sold them. And he does call the cops? Im really stressed out and i don't really need this at this time in my life. I appreciate any help no trolls please this is serious shit due to my security clearance at work.

Sounds like the guy was full of shit. But this is a misdemeanor at worst- seriously doubtful they will follow up on this
