    Building my own computer !

Hey I have a pentium 4 and my hardrive is about to blow up, so I think its time to upgrade. Now I have no idea what to do, I have very little money, so I want to buy the best motherboard and hardrive for the cheapest price possible and install it myself. Also, I will need to find a torrent for windows (the latest one?).

    The questions I have:
    - What is i7
    - What is the best motherboard for i7
    - Will it work with a 100gb hardrive
    - Will all this stuff fit in my tower (do they all have holes in the same places so i dont have to drill through the new stuff to attach it to the tower)
    - What other components will I need
    - Will all this cost under $500

If anyone knows this sort of stuff please let me know what to do, thanks.

A i7 will cost you 340 Bucks, and are you serious about a 100GB HD.

-i7 is a processor, that alone is going to cost ~$300 online.

-Any good motherboard for an i7 is probably going to go out of your price range

-100GB hard drive will probably work if it's the right type for the motherboard, but really you should get more than 100GB. The OS alone is going to take up like 1/4th of the hdd. You'll fill it up extremely fast.

-We can't tell without knowing your tower/which motherboard you are getting. Also idk if this has to be said, but never ever drill a hole through your motherboard -.-

-You need a motherboard, RAM, GPU (or intergrated graphics), CPU, HDD, A case, and an optical drive possibly depending on how you want to install windows or if you want to play games with it.

    - it probably wont

My advice is go for an i5 instead of i7, if you're not using heavy multitasking applications like video encoding, then an i5 isn't that much slower. It's quite a bit cheaper as well.

For the motherboard, you should ideally get a Z77 chipset if you want to overclock, or a H77 if you don't plan on overclocking. If your current motherboard is an ATX spec then it should fit. Since the holes should be in the same positions.

A 100gb hard drive is too dated, Windows 8 takes up 20GB. You can get a 1TB (1000gb) hard drive at decent prices these days.

considering you don't know shit about pcs, and you havent given us any details on your pc case, powersupply etc. just go to a store and spend $500 on a PC or laptop.

I approve what Noodles said, either do some research, and within' 2 weeks you'll know almost everything you need to know, with a $500 budget, you will not afford an i7.
    I'd say, either get an i3 with a HD 7850/70 or an i5 with a 6670/7750/7770.

Dont bother with an i7, get an i3 or i5.
