Gaming should be 2GB+, with a high end Graphics/Video.

    Intel Quad Core 2.0 GHz
    2GB-4GB Ram
If you're looking for hardcore gaming Nvidia GeForce Go 8800 Ultra, this is around $1000 US so if you can't afford it get GeForce Go 8800 GTX which is $400. If you can't afford that either get GeForce 8500GTS which is USD $120
And if you want a ready made Gaming PC I suggest you go to www.alienware.com you'll find a PC with decent ram, amazing processor and great GFX card for around $2000

I wouldent suggest building a computer unless you have a lot of experience. You may think its easy to connect the pieces and it is but i can name at least 3 things that you are likly to do that will kill your computer or mess it up.

    1. ESD will frie your chips
    2. Failing to place stanouts
    3. Commpatibility

But if you think you can do it you know that i warned you.

I agree with Xtern, buy a decent computer and buy custom upgrades. That way you get AND a warranty AND usually a cheaper deal.

One suggestion is not to get an Asus motherboard...

When I built my computer, I bought their product and had to return it 2 times because they gave me a faulty product twice... The motherboard is the Asus's Striker Extreme... Also their tech support sucks... it takes 2 hours to get one of their representatives to pick-up the phone...

    Things
    Intel Quad Core <--cpu
    Corhair <--ram
    tempercool <--fan
    A full Case from Gigabyte
    A extreme sound card
GeForce 8500GTS <-- I have this.. its huge

    hope it helps

I would hold off on getting a good graphics card because they are making DirectX 10.1 or whatever and the current graphics cards that support DirectX 10.0 won't be able to upgrade to it (Yes, M'zoft is that gay) I have an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ and it seems to be pretty fast. Make sure that your motherboard is supported for the CPU otherwise that would suck and it wouldn't work or fit. 2gigs of RAM is plenty enough for me and I'll be running like CS3 and WoW at the same time. If you are going for dual monitors which are extremely wonderful then get two of the same monitors or two that support the same resolution because if it has to render two different resolutions then it'll umm... not be really fast...
