Bottleneck Question

Hey,
I currently have a Pentium E6600 (InB4LOLS) a dual-core 3.06ghz
And I'm looking for a new GPU, one of these; GTX 660 ti/GTX 660/650 ti
or the HD 7770/7850
The question is, will maybe CPU bottleneck the GPU power?
Will appreciate a post with what GPU my CPU can hold the max, without removing its power or something..

that cpu will bottle neck most cards decent cards on the market atm. just grab a 660 or 660ti, then upgrade your cpu when you have the money.
why cheap out on a gpu to only have to upgrade it sooner?

 

Thats the older 775 socket CPU also, so when you do get around to upgrading your CPU, you will have to upgrade the MOBO also.

Is your computer built or bought? I am going to assume bought. Most likely you will have to get a better power supply. Personally, I think forgoing the GPU and going with a lesser i5, and a cheap MOBO and ram for the time being would be a much better upgrade, then a new GPU later.

If you are intent on getting the GPU though, I would go with the 660 ti, and you will bottleneck. Like noodles said, if you are getting the GPU and then upgrading everything else later, get a good GPU now so it will last.

 

I only want to update the build because it's rubbish and can't play anything.
I know it's funny but I will build my own of when new intel CPUs and the GPUs are out so thats late 2013
I want to only upgrade my gpu know, will my CPU bottleneck a gtx 650 or 650 ti?

 

with the gk110 nvidia gpus coming soon (rumored late 2012,early 2013) I don't think you should get anything overkill. But yes, a 660ti will be bottlenecked by a dual core cpu. What games and resolution do you play at?

Most games right now have a quad core standard so I definitely recommend getting at least an i5 (these cost 170-220)
since amd isn't competition compared to intel, it's likely that intel won't be releasing a new set of cpus until late 2013 so you don't have to worry about your cpu becoming obsolete for a good amount of time.

for the motherboard I recommend getting one of the cheaper asus p8z77 boards if you get an unlocked i5, or an p8h77 if you get a locked i5

 

I don't want to upgrade anything, except for GPU..
I will get a new gaming build when the Nvidia and new intel CPUs come out..
What's the best choice to get without getting bottlenecked?

 

gtx 650ti or 660 non ti then, it would help if you listed games and screen resolution u play at

I cant play most of games, that's why I play RS, 64 mb video card (LOL)
I want to play something like BF3 or a good FPS game

 

At that resolution you can run bf3 ultra with a gtx 660

this guy runs a similar build but with a gtx 560, not sure about the resolution but a 660 is more powerful than a 560 so it should work

 

your cpu will bottleneck any decent gpu on the market.
next gpus coming out will be revisions to the 6** and 7*** series. if its the same as the last series. Like 5** and 6*** was to the 4** and 5****. The performance boost to current series wont be huge.
