Anyone else think this is a fake as an attempt to scare botters, after the update RuneScape had less players online then back to normal today. What I've heard is Jagex is creating fake accounts for trial, as a few people have seen the same user twice in trial. I mean why would they ban a whole lot of people and unban them after. I thinks its an attempt to scare botters. What do you think and do you actually know anyone who is banned yet?

The double sightings of people in there could be the false ban's that happened.

I doubt it's fake, whether or not the whole bot nuke will work however is a different story.

There's a ban bug atm with Botany bay and so it may have affected it.

At the moment I'm botting 2 yew slaves, None of them have been banned yet. I'll make sure to let you know how it plays out, But as far as I can tell this bot nuke is not 100% effective

I've been botting FM for 4 days (wtih brakes) and i'm not banned yet and I don't know anyone that is (not including the ban "bug")

We wanted to update you on the situation that occurred yesterday in which a selection of online accounts were banned accidentally for a short period of time. Following a reboot of the servers, these bans have all been removed from any account affected.

As many of you will know, we recently launched the first phase of a new anti-botting initiative within RuneScape. We’ve been taking action against goldfarmers and spammers for the last few weeks, and culminating in the launch of Botany Bay. Whilst Botany Bay is the most visible aspect of this new anti-bot initiative, behind the scenes we have also introduced an entirely new system, BotWatch, and we’d like to be a little more open about the future of that system, and our plans.

BotWatch is an extremely powerful anti-macroing tool allowing us to analyse, interpret behaviour and take action quicker than ever before. Unfortunately, due to a human error, a heuristic still in the testing phase was inadvertently turned on which resulted in a number of unintentional bans. The mistake was spotted immediately and all incorrect offences were removed from the affected accounts very quickly. A full apology to those affected was posted by Mod Emilee (Quick find code: 15-16-748-64015981) on the forums and we took the decision to gift all affected accounts with a goodwill gesture of 20 spins for the Squeal of Fortune.

Rest assured, steps have already been taken to ensure that an error such as this cannot occur again. Whilst this event is deeply unfortunate and regrettable, it goes to show that with such as system even the slightest mistake can have grand ramifications. It should serve as a reminder to everyone (ourselves included!) that we need to take the roll-out and testing of this system slowly and carefully.

This system (and others) have been collecting data on bot activity for some time now, and we are well aware of people who are using bots, and their activities. As part of the roll-out of this system we will be expanding to further in game locations over the coming weeks. Once again though, we want to move methodically and carefully before deploying this system to cover more activities and locations.

Mod Cloughie: Because of the situation, we took the decision to remove the ban and give free spins to everyone who was affected during the very short period that the error was in effect and it is possible that some of these people were using a bot at the time. We felt it important to fix the issue for our legitimate players as soon as possible, knowing that we will catch those who were using a bot in the future. Don’t worry, if an account was unbanned and a bot is used on it again, it will be banned.

The botany bay update was not the nuke bot day as far as I can tell. They are separate updates.
