Bombing Libya

Can someone please explain the true depths of this? Isn't it that The UK actually bombed them because of a treaty or agreement or something that they weren't following, but since our (the US) government is technically the strongest, we bombed this? If this is incorrect then PLEASE let me know. Im generally curious as to why we bombed someone and potentially started a new war.

 

The UN approved a resolution that called for "all necessary means" in order to protect civilians from Gaddafi after he almost wiped out the rebel movement. The French were the first to attack loyalist troops, stopping them from taking the last rebel stronghold after the Libyan government lied about proclaiming a ceasefire. Then the UK and US fired off a shit ton of missiles and the US used stealth bombers to take out communications, control, air defenses, etc or the loyalists. NATO is going to take over patrolling the no-fly zone over the country after the US cedes its leadership role (which it wants to do very quickly) and may also take over the full role of bombing loyalists to stop them from shelling cities and killing innocents.

 

Ok, so what was it about the agreement being broken? Im sure there was something about that.

 

The guy was hiring mercenaries from Africa to do his dirty work, which is basically homicide/genicide(not sure which), if we just watched then people would say "Why didn't you step in," and if we did (which we did), now people will say "Why?"

There's no way to stop the people from wondering, so you have to do the better thing

 

What? Who broke the agreement?

 

Gaddafi broke the ceasefire agreement I believe, if that's what you mean.
