This is a basic computer guide describing the parts of the computer and what they do. Note: I'm sure a lot of you already know this but there are people that don't and this knowledge will be very useful to them Case The case is the outside container that holds your computer components together. Power Supply Distributes Power to all the parts of you computer. Power supply's give out power in watts and average power supply gives out about 400 watts. Hard Drive The Hard Drive is were all of your data is stored. Like programs, files, music. The amount of storage is often rated in gigabytes (GB) some computer have about 4GB and some have over 1000GB but a normal computer will have 100GB-300GB. RAM (aka memory) RAM (Random Access Memory) is were your data is stored when it is in use. The more RAM you computer has the easier you can use multiple programs. Your computer needs RAM because accessing your hard drive to use an application is a lot slower. CPU The CPU does all of the processes, like mathematical equations. It is basically a super calculator that does thousands of processes a minute. Some people consider it the brain of the computer. The CPU speed is often rated in GHz the average computer has about 3GHz of processing power. Motherboard The motherboard connects all the parts together so they can communicate.
