Alive When Beheaded

I've hears that the person (or his head) is 'alive' for about seven seconds before dying when a person is dead.

If so, then what would be going through his head?

Will he be conscience and be thinking about what just happened, or is the head just functioning tissue and such?

 

It's just electrical activity in the muscles that cause spasms. It isn't like conscious movement.

Yeah, I heard of a chicken that lived without its head for 18 months or so

 

If it were to be true then in all honesty I would start saying all my prayers and hope that if there really is a heaven, would I be able to seek salvation and become part of gods holy kingdom. Like seriously apart for saying fuck... There is not much else you could do accept for pray.

 

I think the only thought going through your head would be "well...fuck me."

I have read that when a chicken is decapitated, the body runs around for another 30-60 seconds or so. But I don't think the chicken is actually consciously moving. Your system would just be in SO much shock after the brain was suddenly and abruptly disconnected from every single organ and nerve in your body. It's not surprising that there is some spastic movement for a short time after separation.

BUT - I did read an extremely interesting story one time in Ripley's Believe It Or Not or Guiness (can't remember). A chicken was decapitated on a farm, and the farmer somehow cut it so that it severed the head but the majority of the brain stem remained intact. Because of this, the chicken lived for another year or 2, and was fed by putting water & grain in an eye dropper and dripping it down the throat/severed neck, which functioned as a feeding tube.

As soon as your brain and spinal cord are disconnected there's no feeling, body functions may continue for a moment though

 

It is true, a women years ago was being executed and she said she would blink untill she died after her head was cut off and she blinked around 9 times before she died while her head was cut off.

 

This is just the nerves being severed doing strange things, if you have ever shot something or hunted you will notice a lot of bizarre things animals do in the throes of death. Snakes can still move hours and hours later upon being beheaded, they could also clamp down and bite and inject poison people after they are decapitated. Reptiles seem to be the absolute worst about weird stuff like this .

 

In medieval England, the executioners used to hold up the severed heads, to show them their own body. Apparently, some heads even showed slight reactions to the shock.

The person would feel no pain in either the head or the body. I doubt they would have consciousness in the head either. They would feel no pain because the brain would not be attached to the nerves, therefore the nerves wouldn't react.

so if blinking is like a heartbeat, or breathing the brain does it subconsciously. Muscle spasms sounds plausible. But maybe your brain is alive long enough to blink your eyes for a few seconds, whether you're concious or not. Just another possible reason...

 

Very interesting read. I sure as hell wouldn't want to find out, thats for sure.

If it were me I'd probably be hoping for hell that some after life existed.
