I'm not a regular drinker (I don't go looking for alcohol unless my friends ask), but I'm not a bad drinker. I can drink all night and not black out or forget what's happened.

But the thing is, my face gets pretty red and people try to keep my from drinking. I can keep on drinking no problem, but a single can of beer is enough to make my face really red.

Is there a way to prevent or lessen this as much as possible?
I think that my face got less red during that one month where I drank a lot; will drinking more frequently lessen it?

And what are the reasons that this happens? (The reasons, I'm not asking if it's okay or not.)

A friend of mine uses tums (or any acid reducer she can get her hands on) about an hour prior to drinking and it apparently works. I've also heard of people using heartburn medicines as well, my suggestion would be to see a Physician and receive a professional medical opinion though as I never have sought out this answer personally.

I wouldn't try anything until you've consulted a doctor. Some things can cause a much larger problem if consumed directly before or after alcohol. Ask a health professional for advice.

I've heard of some people being allergic to alcohol.. like literally allergic to it so I mean maybe you are and having a reaction?

Also some people have really red faces (i do).. where it just looks like we're blushing nonstop.. so the doctor gave me a cream and I look normal.. no more redness of the face.. it helped so maybe just ask for that?

Alcohol makes a lot of people's faces red, but it usually goes away after you continue drinking. If your face is continually red, and VERY red, it is quite likely that you may actually be allergic to alcohol - or at least to certain types of alcohol.

If you are drinking beer all the time, you could be allergic to hops/barley or some kind of ingredient in the beer itself rather than the alcohol. Try switching drinks to something else?

I know that personally, myself and a few of my friends have had really bad reactions some nights to white rum. I have no idea why, or what ingredients go into it, but from my experience white rum seems to be one type of alcohol in particular that makes people's faces go quite red throughout the night.

Another issue for a doctor I'd say :p

I probably would never recommend someone drink more alcohol haha.
The only thing I can think of it being is that the rooms you drink in are rather hot.. But I'm not a doctor, so go and see one :)
Or use a diagnosis website (I don't know any, but I know there are sites that you can post symptoms on and a doctor will post).

Well I'm pretty sure that the only thing that a doctor would tell me would be that it's absolutely normal (I know that already.) and that I should drink less.

I'm asking for help from people who've had or still has this problem and found a way around it.

its not normal though is it because none of my friends have this problem? so obviously doctors must be able to do something about it

It's not "not normal" just because you have never seen it before..

I find it strange that none of your friends have this problem, because among the groups of drinkers that I've seen, there's always that one person whose face gets really red.
    Where do you live?

    better question:
are you even old enough to drink yet?

Well the fact you said "I'm pretty sure a doctor would say" means that you haven't asked a doctor. So you don't know hat their response would be.

Don't rule out a doctors opinion just because you think they will say something. They may give you a proper reason an a solution.

It's not a problem that requires a medical solution from a doctor.
It's a pretty damn common occurence and nobody's died from it.

I've searched it up on Korean search engines, and the main responses were "just drink more and it'll lessen" and "it's completely normal, just explain beforehand." No words on a doctor, because there was no need from one.

I thought that I'd ask here, because people from different countries often have different solutions.

Edit: ah well, I guess that the common solution for most problems
In the western world is to see a doctor. Guess that I'll do so and find out if I'm ALDH2 deficient or something

    Thanks for the answers

You came here for honest opinions, then acted disrespectful and blew off everyone's answer and concern for you. It actually is not normal, and really could require medical attention. People do get red in the face from drinking, yes. However, not to the extreme or under the circumstances you explained.

The people in this thread showed real concern and gave their advice, there isn't any need to be rude to those trying to help.

Yeah, I guess that I was being rude. I live in a country that lives a lot differently that western countries like you guys, so to me, going to the doctor sounded absolutely ridiculous. I forgot that what sounds ridiculous to one could actually be the best idea to another.

I appreciate that you guys are trying to help. Go see a doctor just in case? Sure, why not, it's not like I live like I'm asian anyways.

I'm just pissed off at how I've said that it's nothing serious or extreme, but some people are jumping to the conclusion that it is.
Once again, this is NOT an extreme or serious problem. I did some research and it seems to occur in 30% of Korean people.
