account name display names

    I got a question!

    2 scenarios about Account names and then I mean those not in use but still, not available!

    1. XXXX3, changes her name from her original name once to XXXX___XXX for example, and keeps that name for 2-3 years now, original username comes up as "Add friend unknown player" but can't be taken, is it like that forever? is it bound until she changes the name again or will it get free after 2 more years? XD

    2. BBBBDD's login name gets released (as a display), is it also bound so both member and non-members can't get it or if i am memb, I could get the name?

    1st one is really weird it's been 2 years now i think and it still can't be taken. I feel like it was like that it would be bound for a certain "X time" but then get Available for everyone to take. or is it 2 times changed from original?

    2) The log in username always remains the same, however the display name (which could also be that persons username) can get released to the public for others to get. It's not bounded to the account.

    The reason XXXX3 is unable to be taken is due to the RuneScape display name filter. For reasons due to "XXX" inappropriate content online, JaGeX has filtered many names that contain 3 continuous xs, and you are therefore not able to claim them (This was for a period of time, not sure if still in active use).
    The other reasons for this may be that the name is bound to her account, meaning that the account it was on, and only that account, can claim the name. This is usually only reserved for rarer names, such as "Army". Finally, the name may have been deleted from the game. For various reasons, JaGeX may have decided to delete the name, causing her to have to choose a new name.

    If a name is bound, that means only the account that the name is bound to can claim it. Say "Army" changes his name twice. No one else can claim the name, only the account that originally had army can. Login names do not matter in this instance.

    2) Alright, that's awesome. Seems I might be able to get her name since it was released. :) and said person quit 1-2 years ago.


    Now about 1) again, as said about it seems they hold it for some time but still, that's for display names, This is the original login name of hers, She changed once from it, and still has name no #2 today after 2 years while original is still "Unavailable" but still not taken.

    Thank you for your input, really good to see it. About "XXX3" it was just an example name, her original name isn't offensive and not rare, it includes "Suicidal" but isn't that only. is that banned perhaps? I remember her having it for over 10 years so I doubt it was banned after she changed her name. Where can I contact Jagex about this ? if possible.

    That means that the name has likely been deleted, or it is bound. A name is only reserved for the account if there is a last known as. If there is no last known as, that means that it is free for anyone to take. If it is not free, that means the name is either deleted or bound, and you aren't able to know which without said user clarifying.

    Hmm, weird. it seems to be bound but it's weird how they've kept it bound for 2 years when said user is even looong quit herself. o_O any way to contact jagex about it? D:

    Bound means that only the account that the name is bound to may claim it. There is no time limit. If you change your name twice, wait 10 years, and come back, the name will still be available for you to claim it.

    You can try to contact them to see what the deal with it is; however, don't a positive response, or even a response at all. Twitter or ticket would be the best method.
