Sythe Two Factor Authentication Tutorial for PC

Enabling Two Factor Authentication using your PC​

Since I ran into problems, I decided to write up a tutorial on how to authenticate your Sythe account without a smartphone.


A. First you will need Google Chrome installed on your PC for this to work. Chrome can be found here‎.

B. Now you need a Google authenticator extension for Chrome. Make sure you open this link in Chrome.

C. Lastly you need to download a QR code reader. I recommend downloading the the QR Code Generator and Reader by QRt.co extension from Chrome. It can be downloaded while on Google Chrome here

1. After you have all 3 programs installed, you will need to visit: http://www.sythe.org/account/two-step
   
2. Once there click "Add Two Factor Authentication". Your screen should now look like this.
   
3. After you have the QR code showing on Sythe you will need to use the QR code reader extension for Chrome. Right click on the QR code and select Read QR Code From Image just like here
   
4. Now it will give you your "secret code" be sure to screenshot this or write it down.
   
5. Open up the Authenticator extension you downloaded earlier for Chrome. You can open the Authenticator by clicking on the icon of the extension located on the top right of the Chrome browser. Once open, you will need to click the "pencil/edit" icon on the top right and then click the "+" icon.
   
6. It will bring up a settings window, click on manual entry. You will need to enter your Sythe username and the secret code from the QR Reader. Choose time based, and then click "Ok" example
   
7. Now the Authenticator will give you a 6 digit code followed by your username. You need to enter that code on Sythe like this and then click "Confirm Add Two Factor"
   
8. Now your screen should look like this.
   
9. You need to write down the backup code on a piece of paper and place it somewhere safe.

Congratulations! You just set up two factor authentication for your Sythe account! *REMEMBER TO MAKE SURE YOU WRITE DOWN YOUR BACKUP CODE ON A PIECE OF PAPER AND STORE IT IN A SECURE PLACE SUCH AS YOUR WALLET!

Its a good guide, although two factor authentication isn't 100% effective if you're running in on your PC. Ideally you would set this up on a second PC that you don't log into sythe from. (Your parents, etc)

 

This might be true if you were already infected before you set up your 2 factor auth, but in case like that you would have already been hacked.

 

Great guide, will be nice for other people to use.

It's safe to say you have no idea if it worked or not. I used this method personally and that's how I got my account authenticated.

Hmm, sythe doesnt accept my code.

 

Can be the time on your computer differing of phone time, try to get it same time on both and it will work eventually had the same problem.
