Alright, white is for normal users.
    Grey is for ex-staff.

What's happening? Normal users are getting grey UI's. This could fool newer users.

Just pinched that from another thread.

I_LOVE_LA's is acceptable, as well as Heeatz.
Obvilionrages is a bit colour heavy, it looks more like global red in my opinion as the writing looks like it's been made to hide behind the colouring.

However, Sellerman, ASAPGANG and Feelgewd's are blatantly grey.

Grey should be acceptable, newcomers won't know whether grey is ex-mod or not, if they don't have "ex-mod" in their ranks, they wouldn't know the difference.

As you stated, the red is a bit thick, that could easily be confused as staff.

I would agree if ex-staff had permanent grey names (as staff has red, pink, etc) but in the user list they appear the same as a regular user.

I agree with this as well, and it should be strictly enforced or not enforced at all in my opinion because the in between will only cause more confusion.

That sounds like a cool idea.

I was also going to moan about They be trippin's UI but he got it changed, as it was his staff UI haha.

You have to have regards for the benefits of allowing color in donors user images. Take into consideration that having color encourages others to donate, furthermore helping the site.

If you look at it from a business standpoint, potentially, the op is $1200 of user images that directly supports the site, just for having color in their name.

I don't think it really matters, ex staff have the same name color as regular users (because we are regular users). We don't need to be distinguished by different color UIs. The only rule I can find about it is
I find Oblivion's a lot more confusing than any of the grey ones.

edit: to clarify, I don't think the grey ones matter. The color heavy ones can be confusing.

I would have liked a little more blue in my UI, only because Subaru is blue by trademark (as is the rest of my profile and sig). However it was not possible due to clashing with staff colours.

Matthew still approves all the custom UIs (afaik), so it's ultimately his call. The only one from OP I would be a little twitchy about might be Oblivions, but even then, the core text is still gray, just red heavy on overlay, so arguably doesn't break the custom UI rules.

n4n0 clarified on a thread earlier that he wouldn't have allowed any of the grey ones, as that's ex-staff usergroup.

I believe he means the physical appearance.

There are no physical details aside from -
    [IMG]
    - to determine a regular user from a ex-moderator. Therefore, being equally informative of their current-previous position.

With the exception of obvious colors, grey user images have no likelihood of increasing the chance of a user getting scammed due to confusion of position within the site.

No newcomer is going to know the difference in my eyes.. They look for the rank not the UI. The only one there I could argue with is OblivionRage and even then he has more vouches than most globals anyways, so if he where to fake being a global it would be his fault, and not to mention people pay $200 for these.

Most of those people are extremely trusted like Feelgewd, Sellerman and ASAP. A little bit of color in the names won't kill them.

I do not agree with this at all.

To be able to use a UI already requires 200 dollars donated, so give the people some freedom.

Also I didn't even know about these UI colors, and what they ment till some days ago, a newcommer won't be bothered by it.

No support. Matthew approves them; he clearly knows about the different user groups and what not. If he finds them to be acceptable, why are we even here complaining?

What clashfan, boxur and other said are all relevant aswell.

It may seem bias as I have a greyish one, however I don't see an issue any of them.

I disagree that it would confuse newcomers

That being said I'll still give my take on it. If ex-mods standard names are turned grey then I'd consider supporting this, as long as they are the same color as every other user I don't see any reason why it should be enforced.

Grey isn't necessarily a ex-staff color. It's just white/grey for anyone that is eligible for a UI that isn't on staff.

We should change the colour of the ex mods if its that important. Let the 200$ donor get the gray UIs... Gray and white is too close to be 2 different groups!

I'm not worried about this to be honest. If people are using username colors and username images to judge someone's trustworthiness they should think again.

Want to know if you can trust someone? Check their RANKS. THOSE officially signify someone as staff. As for ex-staff... it's up to you to trust them. We don't imply ex-staff are trustworthy...
