League of Legends is a Sport!?

Would you consider League of Legends to be a sport? To those of you whom like me at first thought the motion of a video game to be considered a sport is ridiculous, I mean just looking at most players, you wouldn't consider them very athletic ... However you should consider that people have been given sporting visas for league and EG (electronic gaming) is rumoured to be in the 2020 olympics.... What do users here think?

 

It requires about the same amount of energy as lawn bowls and darts, so I guess it could be.

 

It's e-sports, I view League how I view Chess.

Strategy via a mouse and keyboard. Granted they go through extremes to play a game at such a level, just as body builders go through extremes to be healthy. What's odd to one, is a lifestyle to another.

What you're saying is opinionated, and not factual. How does looking athletic make it any more an official sport or not? There are countless of sports where looking athletic/lean/whatever is redundant.

To answer your question (what I'm saying is a fact), LoL has been recognised as an official sport. Not E-Sport, but an actual sport.

There are over 75 Million LoL players, how did you come to such a conclusion?

LoL is a sport. USA, Russia and some other EU countries official recognised it as a sport a few months ago. You don't know what you're talking about lol.

Personally I would say League of Legends, or any e-sports related game is a sport.

If governments are providing visa's to players for a game as they class is as a sport how is it not a sport? The only reason why people say it's not a sport is becuase players don't have to move much apart from their hands while playing, but if Chess is a sport why can't games be classed as sports? (Mainly at the professional level)

 

When I said that I mean It's not a sport, just because a handful of countries recognize it as a sport It doesn't make it the case. Also get your facts right guys the US government only recognized the NA Challenger group in the World National Finals as sport competitors, not league of legends all together. So It's not technically a sport, but I'm saying why would you want it to be considered that..... not knocking down people just clarifying...

TMP, it is a sport lol. I don't understand this topic. You asked if it was a sport, maybe more so wanting an opinion on others as to whether it is or isn't. It has been recognised by the USA and Russia as an official sport on par with Football, NFL, NBA, etc. I really don't understand your statements/questions lol. How much more clear can it be, that it is a sport?

 

I think there needs to be a very fine line between an e-sport and a sport. Here's my problem with LoL being considered a "sport". ITS NOT REAL LIFE. That's what I think, and I don't believe there is any rebuttal to that. Chess involves two opponents in real life, LoL involves two opponents playing a video game.

 

I'm not sure why we're debating if it is/isn't a sport, when it's already been recognised as one. That's a factual statement. I agree though, It should never been seen in the Olympics, or anything of that nature.

 

Almost all of the tournaments are in "real life," meaning the contestants actually physically shake each others' hands after the matchups. It also involves 10 opponents, not two.

 

It's recognized as an eSport, not a sport. There's a difference.
