Operating System

I'm recently in the process in purchasing a new tower, all I'm waiting for now is the shipment. So I want to be able to get everything ready before then (assuming that there are no DOA). I'm looking for a windows operating system, and they are like $50-$100. Where could I get a cheaper one? Some of the threads that sell on this forum under 'software sales' sell them for like $10, what's the difference between these two? Sounds a bit too good to be true, tbh. I'm still a noob at this, so I'm not sure if I should just get one of those retail keys that sell on this thread instead of paying for the $50-$100.

 

Those keys are usually obtained in ways that are illegal or not condoned by microsoft.

So you really have 2 options.

A) Not pay microsoft and just pirate the OS

B) Pay microsoft and plugin your key

 

Actually, in 2013 and 2014 microsoft released a patch for such pirated keys, i've used a bunch of people for Microsoft keys on sythe and have never had an issue, they are registered as genuine when confirmed with the MS server and have no issue downloading all updates. Zulgs is who i used for multiple keys, fast and cheap.

 

Well firstly, which Windows OS you going for? Note that Windows 7 / 8 (8.1) are eligible for free upgrades to 10 for 1 year.

 

There are still plenty of ways to get keys that aren't exactly legal, ethical, or compliant with microsoft's ToS.

What I'm getting at is if you're going to screw over microsoft may as well just pirate the operating system (there are still easy working methods). If someone doesn't feel good about that they can buy an authentic license. Buying a key from a re-seller makes the least sense to me, because you're still paying money but not to the real owner of the software.

There is no software difference between pirating, buying from a re-seller, or buying legit. A pirated OS will show as genuine and allow you to do windows updates.

 

Hey, thanks again for your assistance! But yeah, I wasn't aware that they were illegal. I asked one of them how he retrieved it and stated that they are "acquired through a msdn account i buy a msdn admin or a invite and these accounts contain several keys of every microsoft product". Not really sure what that meant. Another guy was selling "retail" keys, and so I was assuming that they were legit store product keys.

Yup, my goal was to do windows 7 or 8.1 and just upgrade to Windows 10 from there! However, I noticed that there were threads on this forum that sold window 10 Pro keys for $10, so I figured I might as well buy that if they were legit..

 

Everyone says that regardless how they got them. It may very well come from a MSDN account, which is still discouraged by microsoft.

If someone is selling something a 1/10th price there isn't anything "legit" about it. They probably do work, and you'll be find using them. But like I said you can do the same thing for free.

if you want a free OS see if your school offers it (they usually do)

if not use linux

 

Was just about to see if you went to college. Most colleges offer some sort of Microsoft product while enrolled in school. Now if that includes operating systems I'm not sure :embar:

From there, I'll purchase a product key from one of the threads here hoping that I don't get caught (not sure the likelihood).

 

They wouldn't find out, and even if they did they wouldn't do anything about it.

A genuine copy of windows came with my laptop, but I lost the license key so I ended up pirating it when I re-installed windows. Took less than 5 minutes and no issues.
