As many of you may know there are an extremely large amount of phishing sites out there. Moderators are quick to respond to virus links/phishing sites, however in an extreme case they might not be quick enough.

Due to this, I am suggesting that a confirmation page come up when they are being redirected to a website out of Sythe.org.

    An example could be:

    Code:
[CENTER]You are being redirected out of Sythe.org...

The site you are being redirected to is: http://sythe.org/

    [B][COLOR="Red"]RETURN[/COLOR][/B]          [B][COLOR="SeaGreen"]CONTINUE AT MY OWN RISK[/COLOR][/B][/CENTER]
    Thank you for your time,
    ExecutionR.

I love the concept behind this; however, this might be difficult in practicality. What about imgur / gyazo links? There are a ton of those and clicking on them for scam reports and having to click to view it everytime would be a nuisance. Possibly a way to toggle it, is it's accepted.

I've got a better idea! How about when the person is programming this, they make an exception to those kind of links? There could be a thread where people add a link to be excepted in the thread, and if administrators or moderators deem it trusted enough they will make an exception.

Hell no, this would be so much more of a nuisance than its worth.

Are you able to support your argument? This would only benefit the community and lower the amount of scams.

It'd take development time. It'd be an unneeded hassle for the users. People would just get used to clicking through the warning. Everyone already knows they're clicking a link at their own risk.

Phishing has never been a serious problem here because it takes a moderator 10 seconds to delete a thread and ban someone.

I know you're trying to do something good, but I don't like the implementation.

Adding known phishing sites or fake variations of runescape.com to a blacklist might be better.

If we can toggle it on an off, and it's not too much of a hassle to implement I'd support it.

I've been on forums that have had this in the past, and while I appreciate the extra safety measure, it REALLY got annoying after using the forum for a while. This may help out some of our more gullible members, but for the most part I don't think it's worth it unless it's easy to set up.

Aren't a large portion of phishing links sent through skype? e.g. i'll send you, "please post on my sythe thread so I know it's you" and then link you www.sythe.mywebsite.org/my-thread. Would there be any way to combat these?

I can second this, it's a big hassle to click through another screen each time just to view a link. I've also only seen a handful of phishing links posted here that are taken care of almost immediately, so it does seem somewhat unnecessary - it really is up to the users to practice safe browsing habits.

I do believe this kind of functionality can be very easily implented in XenForo though, if that makes any difference.

I disagree with hand-holding as a premise, the end-user should take precautions of their own. Simply being diligent when clicking links and reporting bad links is better than annoying everybody who clicks a link.

i dont see how this help ... people that click on link do know that they leave sythe ... they just don't know that the website they are about to visit is a phishing site ... i mean all this does is the guy says "i know i'm leaving sythe" but it doesn't prevent phishing site imho

Not a fan of this. I don't see much phishing sites being linked to on Sythe and the suggested precaution is way too annoying.

This. We usually delete them pretty quickly & it would be annoying to have a popup window each time you click on a link. There's not enough phishing links for that to be implemented. As Dunworry said, there is a lot of links in reports & I don't think mods would want to have a popup each time they click a link in a report.

Hence why I suggested it say the link they're going too...?

    A toggle option?

A toggle option isn't a good idea either. People won't know how to turn it off and then they'll switch to other fora. It's just too annoying.
