Bumping

I understand bumping your thread every once in awhile to keep it under new posts, but some users are continually bumping with full knowledge no one wants to do whatever is in the thread. The thread that brought it to my attention is:

Can we make it where we are only allowed to bump a certain amount of times before someone else responds or something? I know bumps are every 8 hours, but geez 5 pages of just bump is ridiculous

 

I think it's fine, maybe an automatic way to bump every 8 hours is a better suggestion. Whenever I see someone bumping under 8 hours I just report it.

 

they're free to bump as many times as they like as long as it doesn't infringe upon any other posting rules (ie 1 bump / 8 hrs). and just because people aren't posting doesn't mean they're not interested - probably 5 or 6 times the number of people messaged me on skype than posted on my threads when i was swapping/skilling actively.

and fwiw, i believe using scripts that auto-bump every x hours is legal as long as x > 8 hours. someone was trying one out in the spam forum last week, and i made most of one in the past but never used it.

 

Why? This will kill threads in all market sections and just promote having multiple accounts to fake vouch/post.

 

Bumping makes sythe activer we must get it per 6hour tho

 

I see where you're coming from. Dunworry is the master of this in his "buying pmod account" in like 83 different sections.

Who cares though.

 

What about a way to bump a thread without actually having to post in it? Similar to how the RS Official Forums has a button for the OP to bump up a thread without posting in it.

Sometimes I get annoyed wading through a sea of bumps looking for what other users have posted.

But either way it's a minor thing, if it's not easily possible to create a way to bump without posting then it's not worth it.

 

Yeah making bumping not give post count would be nice too. JUst use bumping as a way to keep threads fresh

 

Have a look in the Do Not Suggest list for information about the bump button/bumps not giving postcount ideas.

 

3 things on the DNS list have been implemented though... Name changes can be done, vouches for GFX can be done,and post count restrictions (upper spam) is done.....

Anyways, I don't see any issue with it. What about those sections that aren't very active? Neopets and other games don't see sales super often, thus lead to a lot of bumps. Also with my pmod accounts. I've only had a few people contact me in the entire time with offers and such; pmod accounts are hard to come by. It'd be an unfair restriction.

I think it is fine the way it is, if people are breaking the 8 hour bump rule just report their thread.

 

If you get angry seeing these threads, just ingore them, you'll sleep better for sure. Also, auto-bumping shouldn't be allowed unless it ignores post count.
