Vouches Impersonating Fix

Since I've started selling on this website, I've had 2 people try to buy from me and go first claiming to someone who has a lot of vouches. When they tell me in skype that they are who they say they are, I obviously want it proven. I ask them to comment on my post rather than give me a link to their vouches thread, and of course that's when they turn away and are suddenly uninterested. I don't know how much other people have this problem, or if it's just be rotten luck, but it seems like something that could cause a lot of problems.

A quick fix to this (I don't know if it'll be quick or not I have no idea how html coding works) would be to make vouches sent anonymously to their profile, and only viewable by clicking a direct link to their profile, which would in turn generate a random address. This random address when clicked, will just bring you to the sythe homepage unless you click their profile yourself to get there. And of course, this would mean no vouches forums, but instead an extra tab to someone's profile where people can comment as vouches.

Like I said, I don't know how this would be done in html, or if it's even possible, but it seems like a fix to people who mimic trusted users.

 

It's a good idea, but I'm pretty sure it'd be impossible or very hard to implement. You should just stick to asking for a PM; works for me.

 

I figured as much. And I'm going to continue asking for a PM, but I'm afraid for the people that won't. They'll give away their gold/money/accounts just because someone has a link to a forum.

 

A PM with correct info in it solves all the problems you have. No need for this at all.

If they won't PM you, then it's a scammer.

I like how the vouch system is set up atm, and this doesn't seem needed.

Always ask for a PM.

 

This is very complicated for new people to understand, and I don't see people using this if it were to be implemented.

There is no chance you'd be speaking to the wrong skype if everybody would use the official format:

it's illogical to assume people fall for this a lot, about the same number of people probably who reply to fake e-mails and phone scams.

If the bank phoned you asking for payment or details, is the first thing you do not confirm its actually the bank? same rule should apply here. something dumb like this limiting vouch visibility and a big part of the system of trust here isn't going to happen anyway

So people need sythe pm's to report a scam? Otherwise the other user does not get banned? I'd have to go against this tbh..

 

That's how it currently works, with the new system all you'd have to do is show that they gave you the link in skype.

 

Exactly this. Just PMing someone doesn't take long - implementing this unique, complicated feature does.

 

The system currently in place works and will work for a long time until someone somehow exploits it.

 

Rep system instead of vouches would also be a good idea.

Benefits:

1. No self vouching
2. Direct indication on profile how much vouches/rep
3. Looks cleaner instead of all posts to go trough for something negative

Problems with current system:

1. Self vouching
2. No clear indication of how many good/neutral/negative vouches
3. Many pages to skip trough if someone has a lot

Because of those reasons people are getting scammed or fake vouch.
With a rep system everything is visible within 1 look at profile or post, only a PM needed after that!

 

Those are called "Imposters" They try to fake being a trusted person so they can dig for your gold =P Always ask for a pm before trading with someone.

 

You guys are making this sound like a way more complicated system than it is, it could be developed in an afternoon and let verification be completed with a single link. Its cool imo and worth it.

 

It would still be gamed.

Imposter talks to noob. Agrees on a deal with noob.

In the meanwhile he talks to the real seller. Imposter makes the same deal. Seller gives him link.

Instead of opening the link, the imposter gives it to the noob. Noob trusts imposter, scam completed.


So, a forum pm would still be required.

 

This has been discussed time and time and time and time and time and time and time again.

NEVER going to happen.

This. People do the same thing with PMs too. They act as impostors and tell the person they're impostoring that they're the person they're scamming and to send them a PM to the person they're scamming.

Only way to not get scammed is to trade with trusted users or just trade smart. If it's too good to be true it probably is.
