Notification when quoted

Every time someone quotes me on a thread, I would like to get a notification, similar to the PM one, I don't know if there is a system like this already, but I don't know/can't find it
anyway, its a pretty simple idea and I hope you guys look into if its not already implemented somehow.

 

They have something like this on one of the forums I browse (It's a vbulletin forum as well and you could toggle the notifications off/on)

I liked that idea would be helpful quite a bit.

 

It's been denied several times, but I personally like the idea. Many other forums have this sort of feature and it's always nice to tag back to threads you've posted on. I don't use the subscribe-to-threads feature, but some say that the subscription system is similar to the notifications we're talking about - so maybe you can try that for now?

 

It isn't quite the same for me, but yeah, sucks that it's been denied in the past...if there was to be a toggle on/off option even it would be nice, but thanks!

I support. YOu have no idea how many threads I've gotten quoted on and never replied cause I had no idea I was even quoted.

The problem with bringing in this add-on it slows the loading time on the page rapidly, As the add-on rapes the database. Not a bad idea but its a shame it comes with a downside.

It has never even crossed my mind to PM someone when I really wanted to tell them something in a thread where you are discussing things. Usually it's arguing, giving your opinion, or adding to their post. When I do this Id like them to read it because I obviously based my post on theirs, and they are usually the main reason I posted. It seems a bit desperate that I would quote someone and after checking back countless times that I would PM them to read it if they haven't already. The main reason my post is this long is because I am quoting you and Drento, Im disagreeing with you and agreeing with Drento. I will not PM you to ensure you read this, that's rather pathetic. I would prefer to be notified if someone posts a well thought out post and quotes me. I for one acknowledge the thought put into some posts, and if Im involved in it, Id hate the chance that I may not read it, simply because I don't want to spend my time hoping for something that may or may not be there, most likely always ending with the latter.

There's a reason why it's called private messaging, posting on a thread will get you judged on your opinion. I would prefer to argue with people seeing both sides, rather than argue in pm where it will end prematurely, simply because vanity is involved in the former. If you don't like it, turn it off, Im not sure why that would even be a reason not to support something because you don't find it useful yourself and don't see how it benefits you. A lot of the suggestion threads Ive supported usually affect me in no way, but knowing it can be useful to others is fine with me. Now if an argument like this was posted and aimed at me, Id like to be there to defend myself and not let people jump to conclusions of their opinion on me. If it's a PM, and not really worth replying to, I wouldn't care as much.

This has been just a reason Ive posted less. I am not as active on the forums, and the threads I see just don't interest me. I do however participate in a few discussions from time to time, and Id love to know if Ive been quoted, simply to see what someone's opinion/argument on my post was. Honestly I don't check back on most because I don't spend a lot of time here, and I just refuse going to check all my posts to look for a thread that might have been replied to, or subscribing to a thread and just seeing a thoughtless post that ignores mine.

I've expanded on your idea and photoshopped up a possible design to suit your idea. This is the notification box, and it would let you see whenever someone quotes your messages, and it will also show you if someone posts on your threads, OR your subscribed threads.
