I'm not a muslim myself, but I have some muslim friends who drink alcohol and claim that they're still muslims.
My opinion is that to be a muslim (to be different from a Christian or Jew) you've got to believe in their profit and you've got to believe in God. whether you break the rules or not doesn't say whether you're a muslim or not.

    Shoot on me :)

Well this depends on what people think of "their own reality". But on the other hand, people define "reality to themselves" as their own meaning of correctness and truth. But these are just merely vague concepts. So what I'm trying to say is that Moslims nowadays live by their own reality and they can still call themselves Muslims? Or do they have to live by all the requiments that the Quran gives to be calling themselves Muslims??

I'm not familiar with the Muslim belief, but I would ask them the same question I ask to Christians. Who are they to decide which parts of the book should be followed and what can be ignored?

I'm a drinking muslim, and yes, i still believe i'm muslim.

Alcohol wasn't banned for muslims until a drunkard in an islamic state, long ago, beat his mother to death because he was under the influence.

I'm muslim. That part would only pertain to the food you eat. If the peopel drink alchohol, they really can't be called muslim. Do they pray etc?

Are you allowed to be called a Buddhist if you are violent?

    The list goes on.

That's like saying if you're still considered a human if you're missing a finger, sure but you aren't a complete one.

You've completely got the wrong idea. It's not a complete kharam like say pork, though it is a sin nonetheless.

Basically, yes but it's a sin.

Are you allowed to be called a muslim if you drink alcohol?

Exactly. If you want the specfic quote/ arabic writing, I can try looking for it later on. But it is specified in the Qur'an.

Are you allowed to be called a muslim if you drink alcohol?

If, according to the religion - drinking alcohol removes you from the religion, - then you are not a muslim.

You can't base this on personal perception or opinions..

Are you allowed to be called a muslim if you drink alcohol?

4:43 You who believe, do not come anywhere near the prayer if you are intoxicated, until you know what you are saying . . .
2:219 They ask you [Prophet] about intoxicants and gambling: say, "There is great sin in both, and some benefit for people: the sin is greater than the benefit."
5:90 You who believe, intoxicants and gambling, idolatrous practices, and [divining with] arrows are repugnant acts—Satan’s doing: shun them so that you may prosper. 91 With intoxicants and gambling, Satan seeks only to incite enmity and hatred among you, and to stop you remembering God and prayer. Will you not give them up?
(vol. 3, p. 155).All the Muslims stopped drinking. Once the command was given, all wine containers were emptied and broken throughout Madinah [Medina]. Indeed, those who were in the process of drinking did not swallow what was in their mouths when they were informed of the prohibition. It was, thus, a great triumph for the Qur’an and its approach.

    Amendments:
[He] should give Sadaqa [charitable gift] making amends of the wrong done by him. According to Imam Abu Hanifa [a major jurist; see next section], it is imperative to expiate his sin as laid down in the Shariah by feeding ten poor men, or clothing ten deserving persons or observing three fasts. The other jurists are of the view that Sadaqa is enough, no matter what its amount or measure is. (note 2087)

Are you allowed to be called a muslim if you drink alcohol?

Not quite, actually, because certain religions, like Orthodox Judaism, will deny you completely if you do not adhere to every law that they have. This being said, if you, say, eat pork and you are an orthodox Jew, you are not a stunted Orthodox Jew, you are not an Orthodox Jew. Some religions are very adamant about small things and will reject you if you break their complicated rules even a little bit.

Why would you want to call yourself a Muslim if you don't agree with it's rules...
