As we all know, politicians are prone to breaking election promises, why hasn't a law been enacted that would cause any Politician who broke an election promise to be quickly, and harshly dealt with.

Because then nobody would run for office.

You could say you wouldn't lie when in office and if you mess up what you ate for breakfast you'd get in trouble.

Everything is not 100% up to them also, sometimes they try to keep promises but can't because of checks and balances.

Because every politician breaks election promises, its also too vague of a law and there are often circumstances outside of the control of the politician. Imagine everything you said could lose you your job if you weren't able to follow through years later.

Because it's a gray area. What if someone finds a better alternative and went with that, he'd be breaking his promise for a better cause. More bad than good probably happens. You can prevent them from promising, but they will always try (and normally succeed) to persuade you to believing them. It could be reviewed on a case by case basis. It would help if the media reminded them of their lies, which does not happen. They rarely (if ever) even address the promises they broke with an explanation.

Because a law like that would have to be passed by politicians. They aren't going to act outside of their self interest.

Because when they run for the office they don't know, atleast fully, what is the situation in this very office. When they get elected, they may find it to be very different then expeced, thus having to change plans. Of course most just promise whatever to get elected regardless of what I said

It would violate the first amendment and even if it did not it would be unenforcable.
