    Outsourcing Leadership

For majority of nations one main requirement is that someone running for a leadership role (member of parliament, state leader, presidency, etc) is a national of the country they are seeking power within, example, you must be an Australian citizen to run for Prime Minister of Australia or leader of an Australian state.

I heard a debate on the radio a few days back which argued whether or not this rule should be made defunct and got me thinking, is it essential that a national runs their own country or state? I understand that for the sake of morale it is beneficial to have someone in power you can relate to, but if the job could be done better by bringing in a foreigner then why not?

Nations are able to outsource jobs in even some of the higher power positions, example being Mark Carney, a Canadian, being chosen to run the Bank of England, so why not for political excellence? If a proven politician has run a similar state or region overseas to great success then surely it would be beneficial for other countries to consider them as a worthy applicant?

There are a lot of politicians at the moment who weren't born in the country they are a leader in, but rather became a citizen after living there for a long time, but this is more about a foreign national running for leadership in a country they have not lived in extensively but would be likely to bring political success.

I'm not too sure on the rules of foreigners applying for political positions within other countries but I thought this was an interesting topic. Maybe I'm just boring.

The Founding Fathers were concerned that subversive enemies could force the fledgling republic back to foreign monarchical rule. Delegates didn't want the United States to suffer the same fate as Poland, which in 1772 had been partitioned among Austria, Prussia and Russia after agents of those countries bribed Polish nobles to elect a disloyal king.

In simpler text - it is easy to social engineer yourself into a role of power with malicious intent for the future.

Many terrorist organizations could easily manipulate themselves into a presidency while having zero intentions to better the country.

Although having a natural born citizen as president is not 100% guaranteed fail proof, it is the closest, minimal risk option the government has to offer it's society.

I understand that concern but the person would still need to run for power, they would need to be a proven political leader from a country of similar means and they would need to establish a significant level of trust and political prowess which takes years of study and work in order to achieve. The likeliness of a foreigner using this as a means of attack would be the same as national of the country using it maliciously.

Surely there would be laws or forms of engagement to insure those countries with strong political activism against other countries aren't allowed each others nationals to run for positions of power in case they were malicious, such as an Indian running for a power position within Pakistan (broad example, I know), but fear of terrorism shouldn't be enough to neglect foreign politicians, surely? Shouldn't a healthy, controlled and constant examination of each politicians work be a clear insight to their intentions.

Interesting idea but I don't think it would work. I mean it would be like outsourcing your boss.
Edit: That didn't make sense to me either LoL
