Why should we force churches to marry gays?

Should churches be shutdown/penalized/sued if they refuse to marry gays even while they should be protected by the first amendment?

I don't see how anyone thinks its ethical to force a group to abandon their spiritual values. It is my opinion that anyone who is in favor of laws forcing churches to abandon beliefs is just being childish because they are against Christianity.

If gays want to get married they can find a church willing to marry them or even get married without going to a church it is unethical to force anyone to break their beliefs to do this to a christian church would be the same as forcing a child to kill his parents you are forcing him to commit what he believes to be a sin.

Note: I know Judaisim, Islam & other religions are against gay marriage as well but Christianity is the major religion in United States so I thought I would make it about Christians.

In my state (as well as many others) gays can take legal action against churches who refuse to marry them, while I support right for gays marry I do not support any law that infringes against the first amendment.

 

Are they actually required by law to marry them? I can't imagine that actually being legal. I could see states manipulating their financial support of churches who won't marry gays, "forcing" them to marry them via money.

 

It should just depend on the individual view of the minister/priest/whatever of that particular church. Some are accepting of it. I don't think any minister or religious authority should be forced, no. Coming from someone who is all for gay marriage being on par with straight marriage as well.

 

What i don't see is why they have to get married in a chuch, i'm not saying i am against it but isn't the important thing that they will be married? I wouldn't want to get married in a Church. I'm straight though.

 

When its legal its part of the anti-discrimination laws where you are illegal to refuse service to any one based on gender, race, sexual orientation or religion unless they are a white christian male.


They could get married from other churches or even non churches would marry them however when its legal it violated the first ammendment rights of churches.

This is biggest reason why Gay marriage is a big issue I support rights for them to marry but I cannot support private organizations forced to abandon their beliefs.

 

I don't think churches should be forced to marry gay couples. Since getting married in church is only a trivial thing, but without a shadow of a doubt I think they should be allowed to married by law (The paperwork stuff)

Since if you force churches to marry them, dont you think that marriage will be a tad bit stale or bad? The priest (Correct word?) would want to get over with it quickly and not really care about the couple. Although I dont think the churches shouldent be allowed to marry gay couple if they so want to

 

Marriage does not have to be a religious thing, it could simple be the union of two people by law, therefore i do not believe that churches should be forced to marry gays, however i do think gays should be given the rights to marry in the eyes of the law and society, this is coming from somebody who has Pro-Gay views and is an atheist.

 

This is a tough issue, it's the first ammendment vs anti-discrimination.

 

Why can't they just get married in a court?
Like, I don't know if court marriages are there in the U.S or not. Why churches?

 

They can but anti-discrimination laws say you cannot refuse to marry gays even if the first ammendment should protect you.

Of our Bill of rights we only have 1 amendment left (The third) the other 9 have been rendered obsolete by the last 3 presidents

 

People should be free to do as they please.
I'm all for gay marriage, but I don't see why churches should be forced to do anything.

 

We shouldn't. "Churches" are people too and they should be allowed to exercise their will just as anybody else.
