Which Music Genre "Corrupts" Children the most?

Way to stereotype people. One of my friends listens to rap, and he doesn't dress, nor sounds like a jock. I listen to metal; 1. I don't skate and 2. I don't have long hair.

To the point of this thread: I believe some rap is bad influence, but most of the bad influence comes from media.

I was at an appointment, and I see this one kid sitting next to me. He has a toy gun, and he was pointing at some people in front of us. The thing was that he had the toy in his left hand, stuck out his left arm, put the gun sideways onto his left arms wrist. That's how the people in the movies do it, as if they were in a gang. The kid was only 5 years old - what the mother said when she was talking to the clerk.

Anyways, I wouldn't think the majority of the kids who listen to music, listen to screamo, emo, etc. because it's quite obvious; it's not music to them. So I wouldn't vote for screamo, emo. The ones who listen to that are mostly, if not always teenagers+.

 

If music effects people in a negative way, then these people shouldn't be listening to music. i've listened to Metal for years. I've listened to Rock for years. I've listened to Classical for years. I've listened to punk/alternative for years. Need I go on? I listen to a bit of everything - except rap and hiphop, I just can't stand those two genres.

If you become "corrupted" because you take in the lyrics certain bands feed you seriously, then you honestly don't deserve to listen to music. I listen to music because I enjoy music, not because I want to be intentionally brainwashed.

Edit: Please! Tell me what about Screamo makes people depressed? You'd have to honestly be TRYING to be depressed if it made that sort of influence on you.

 

Rap because it influences them into being 'gangster' and whatnot.

i like metal because it sounds good not because of the lyrics
some metal lyrics are about killing yourself, others, eating gore, satanism,
that fucks kids up

 

I definately think rap. Rap is what all those wanna be gangsta's listen to that go around raping and gang bashing people.

Why do teenagers limit music to rap and screamo/emo nowadays? There's like over a 100 different music genres. I prefer rock, alternative, heavy metal, hair metal, classic rock, rave and techno. There's a few emo bands that I'm embarrassed to admit that I like, but overall, I don't care for the genre.

Akon makes RnB, not rap. There's a difference between rap and RnB, rap tends to have the wannabe-gangster attitude in which some easily naive kids adopt that could ultimately lead to living a shitty life in crime. RnB on the other hand, is a softer version of rap, focusing more on catchy tunes and lyrics that generally aren't considered offensive/obscene.

Screamo depresses me because its sad that some people actually call it quality music.

Music doesn't control who you are, unless you let it.

 

Didnt like the above post, honestly, Screamo is music, and music can control you if you let it. And most people do let it, because NOTHING else has an influence on you like it. If you hang out with a group of friends who ALL listen to rap, most likely you will listen to rap. If your friends who all listen to rap than you will, and you will follow their ways and if their ways are also influenced by rap, than Its basically like MUSIC IS CONTROLLING YOU! Reread it a couple of times and it might make sense.

You cannot be corrupted by a genre of music. You would have to be messed up before that happens.

I listen to rap, and other shit that involves death and killing people, drugs and other shit, but you don't see me pulling a gun out on a guy because he stole my drugs, do you?

I don't think music actually effects the way people act unless they let it.

Out of Rock and Rap though, I would say Rap has more of a negative impact.

 

What kind of music is "screamo"?

 

Death Metal and Rap are the two most common one's. You see people wanting to kill others 'cause of rap and you see people wanting to hurt themselves because of death metal. You don't see someone doing anything bad while listening to "let it be" do you?

 

I listen to Death Metal, not once since I've been listening to it have I wanted to severely hurt myself.

 

i hate metal it gives a lot of bad messages, which can be worse than rap.

 

Well, it depends on your view of the matter. Metal,-if at all- describes what certain people would call 'satanic' things.

Rap on the other hand is focused around prostitution, sex, drugs, and violence.


So, the question to ask yourself is, which is worse?

 

i think its definatley the metal and stuff....alot of kids who listen to that are emo..and kind of deaf
