Default Guide to football (soccer)

Hello There and welcome to my guide To Football.

I have a Really good knowlegde base on football i have been watching and studying it for the past 15 years. Once you have read my guide you should know everything about the great old game!

Contents:

1. Rules in football and words and meanings.
2. How the premier league works.
3. Positions
4. Tactics

Rules in football and words and meanings. This is best to cover first so you don’t go watching or playing a game and thinking WTF?

Each Game of football has 11 Players on each team, usually 5-7 players on the bench(Waiting at the side for the manager to make a swap for another player on the pitch.)

In the game of football, no player apart from the goal keeper is aloud to touch the ball with his hands, if he does so, the game will be stopped and the player is usually issued with a yellow card (if deliberate)

The game lasts for 90 minutes, at 45 minutes there is a 5-10 minute break, where the managers get to have a chat with the team to tell them how there doing, or to start playing better.

A yellow Card – This is shown to player to tell them one more of these means that they get sent of and sometimes banned/fined from there next match. It’s shown when a foul has been done, and the referee shows it, obviously, the foul isn’t bad enough for a red card.

Referee- A man that runs around the pitch looking for fouls, hand balls, anything that is against the rule, which therefore he will stop the play. He also blows the whistle for free kicks, penalties, and half time (the interval in the game half way through)

A red Card – This is shown to sentence bad behaviour on the football pitch, when a player has been shown a red card they will be sent to the changing rooms and will not be aloud to play any further, Usually players miss the next game and get fined.

Foul – A rule being broken, the players get a red/yellow card for this, or the name in the book ( the one that a referee carrys in his pocket) to tell the referee that if he catches that player again he could get a yellow or red card straight away.

Injury Time – The amount of time that has been added for all the stops in the game towards the end of each half, usually between 1-5minutes.

Penalty – Where a player has been fouled inside the box near the goal keeper.

Throw in – Where the ball has been kicked out of the outside lines of the football pitch the opposite team gets a throw in, where they throw the ball out of there hands to a member of there team.

Linesman – These are men running up and down the side of the pitch, to look for offside’s and fouls, to signal to the referee to stop the game.

Offside rule -A player in an offside position is only committing an offside offence if, in the opinion of the referee, he is involved in active play "at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team." A player is not committing an offside offence if the player receives the ball directly from a throw-in, goal kick or corner kick, or if the player receiving the ball is level with or behind the player passing.
Therefore a player who runs from an onside position into an offside position after the ball was touched or played by a team-mate is not penalised because a team-mate is no longer touching the ball.
Determining whether a player is in "active play" can be complex. FIFA issued new guidelines for interpreting the offside law in 2003 and these were incorporated in law 11 in July 2005. The new wording seeks to more precisely define the three cases as follows:
• Interfering with play means touching the ball passed or touched by a teammate.
• Interfering with an opponent means preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent's line of vision or movements or making a gesture or movement which, in the opinion of the referee, deceives or distracts an opponent.
• Gaining an advantage by being in an offside position includes playing a ball that rebounds to the player off a post or crossbar or playing a ball that rebounds to the player off an opponent having been in an offside position.
In practice, a player in an offside position may be penalised before playing or touching the ball if, in the opinion of the referee, no other team-mate in an onside position has the opportunity to play the ball.
Controversy regarding offside decisions is normally caused by what movements a player in an offside position can make without being judged to be interfering with an opponent. Bill Shankly made a famous quote: "If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be." This is a offside rule fully explained that I find to difficult to explain myself so I used wikipedia to help me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offside...ation_football

How the premier league works

Back again

For this part I will be explaining how the premier league works.

In the premier league there are 20 teams, Everyone plays each other twice, once at there home ground and once at there opponents home ground. Altogether each team plays 38 times.
Win = 3 points
Draw = 1 Point
Lose = 0 points
GD = Goal Difference, the difference between the amount of goals scored and the amount of goals let in.
A structure of the premier league below

1. Wins the league (gets a trophy) Automatic entry to the champions league (also gets entered for the Charity shield cup final against the team who won the FA cup)
2. Runners Up Automatic entry to the champions league.
3. Gets a entry to the pre-Champions league play offs (if they win, they get entered to the champions league)
4. Gets a entry to the pre-Champions league play offs(if they win, they get entered to the champions league)
5. gets entry to the other european cup
6. gets entry to the other european cup Considering they win
18.Gets relegated to the lower league
19. Gets relegated to the lower league
20. Gets relegated to the lower league

Positions in a game of footballIn football there are 4 different main positions

These are Goalkeeper, Defender, Midfielder, Attacker (striker)

If you’re a goalkeeper your main role is to defend your goal and do everything you can to stop the opponents scoring past you.

If you’re a Defender your main role is to stop the opposition getting past you, using your strength, and speed.

If you’re a midfielder your main role is to help the defenders and attackers when needed, scoring goals, passing the ball, keeping the game flowing, without midfielders a game a football would be very boring.

If you’re a attacker, your main objective is to score as many goals as possible, most top players get bonuses to score goals, usually, the most goals you score the better odds you are going to win so attackers play a main role in football the same as midfielders.

Mini Roles –

Winger defenders, these are usually there to run down the left and right hand side of a football pitch to help the midfield and attackers to score goals.

Central Defenders, these are a very powerful side to stopping people getting past them, usually these players need a lot of strength to put the wits about the opposition.

Winger Midfields, Exactly the same role as winger defenders, use all there speed about them to help the defenders and attackers when needed.

Central midfielders, Usually you get a really strong midfielder and a really fast one, one to help the defence, and one to help the attackers, both these players play a main role in the game getting the ball from one side of the pitch to another, in a game of football you need two central midfielders that work together if you don’t your chances of winning are reduced dramatically.

Note that forwards are also attackers.

Tactics
Tactics in football, A very common word used, very hard to use tactics though when you have a team with very little communication skills.

You need to work as a team or Tactics aren’t a word .

Tactics are used as a game of play, the way use take the ball past the opposition, ‘step overs’ is commonly used to fool the opposition, a step over is where you move your feet round the ball then back behind it really quick to start moving again, in football you need to know which side to go, or whether to kick the ball threw the oppositions legs.

Tactics are used to get the ball to one side to the other, using quick passes or long passes.

This guide is fully mine, there is one part that has been used from a source which i have stated above.

This guide was Made using Microsoft Word. I will be making more guides i plan to make more then 20.
Im adding images at the moment

Love being a Stopper(Defender) I am a sprinter, and since my coach knew that, we'd have these sketch ass plays where I would get thrown the ball, and fuckin' floor it to there goal, 90% I wouldn't shoot Either, just pass it off and move back. Great guide by the way, What boots you where?
