Note this is my first attempt at web design.

How many fucking times do we have to say web fonts!

change the font to a web font,

and think about the navigation some more, try centering or increasing its height a bit, and try to find colors which match more,

a decent first attempt.

 

All the filler text is arial, which is a webfont?

The only other fonts were only for Logo and Sub-Headings such as NEWS.me, ABOUT.me, etc.

Thanks for the advice, i think I'll keep the colors i used.

 

It's a good try, but I think the filler font is too close to really read, esspecially by those with bad eyes like me.

I'd also say get rid of the forum-like things like register, their login with messages, etc. because it's a portfolio site they are not needed to exist.

Add some snazziness to the headings too they don't stand out really well against the body text.

what's 'webfont' i can guess what the filler text is but what's webfont = \

It's a pretty basic, yet appealing design.
maybe add a small touch to the sidebar, to give it a bit of an effect.

Redo the navigation
Fix the alignment of.. everything
Fix all of your text
Change the drop shadow on the content in the middle
Change the borders. The gradients don't look nice.

 

I must admit, i did look at your design as a guide.
