[RS 3] Duke's New Account Log [By Hand] [Rags to Riches]

So, after seeing the Iron Man videos on Runescape 3 & 07's respective Behind the Scenes, I had an itch to do something I have not done in probably 7 years or so: make a new Runescape account.

However, I did not really like the parameters set forth by Jagex in terms of Iron Man Mode. Firstly, I don't like how in hardcore mode 1 death = the end of your character. There are too many outliers present in game mechanics to be 100 percent sure you won't die, such as lag-outs or client crashes being responsible for ending your account forever. Also, I want my account to be able to interact with other accounts and be able to trade with them. Getting items in Hardcore Iron Man mode would be too Runescape Classic like in its tediousness.

Ultimately, I have always wondered if I could make an account and get it from rags to riches, in THIS generation of Runescape...not Runescape when I first played it (2004). Now, while my main has gotten a near 25B bank in Runescape 3 and a 650m bank in Old School Runescape, all legitimately, I played in an era where the economy was not inflated and gp/hr methods were not horrid. Plus, it took me ~10 years to acquire said wealth, and some of it was given away to me. This won't be the case here.

I legitimately wonder all the time "Would somebody joining Runescape in 2014 be able to legitimately build his way up into a powerful and wealthy account?" --- Well, I am fixing to find out.

I have created a fresh level 3 account in Runescape 3. I want to pretend that I am a new player in 2014 and see how far I can progress in the game. Now, this will obviously not be fully authentic, because I will have the knowledge and know-how of the game that a true 2014 player would not have. However, most of my training methods are the older style any way, so I won't have as big of an advantage as you might think.

I don't yet know what my goals are, and I am taking suggestions on challenges I can try to complete. This is a good alternative set of goals to have while I continue to grind out my main's goals, which sometimes get very boring and monotonous.

Ultimately, this is more of an earning GP goal than it is a skill level goal. I have no real desire to level skills again, especially since A: My main isn't maxed and B: My 07 goals are very time consuming & focus on high levels in many skills.

Rules of my Noob account (how it's a little different from Iron Man or makes this goal challenging in general):
-Cannot accept donations. All gp must be earned by my own hard work.
-I can use the grand exchange & trade with other players.
-I can merchant, but I don't really want to do that. Most 2k14 players would not know how to play the market like I can. I want traditional GP methods such as Green Dragons or bossing to be utilized for GP earnings.
-The account has been given members, F2P content is way too limited and boring.
-I will not give my account ANYTHING from my main or other accounts. Not even bonds. If I want members, I will pay for it like a normal player would, either through GP earned on the account for a bond, or real life cash paying for members.




Goals of Noob Account:
-100 Million GP or a low value Rare like a Green H'ween Mask. ****Achieved****
-1000 Total Level
-Combat stats appropriate for mid-level content/ bossing (such as Bandos)
-Fire Cape
-100 Quest Points

How I plan to make money (taking suggestions!)
-Green Dragons or Blue Dragons (The old standby, lol)
-Slayer (This might not be possible and Idk how much I want to grind Slayer again).
-Mid-level content bossing (Bandos)
-Picking flax (JK)
-Turning flax into bowstrings (Actually decent cash)
-Clue Scrolls
-Need more suggestions.

Feel free to give me suggestions on what methods to use to make GP, try to give me a rough estimate of how much/hr it is.

To conclude, like I said, this is more of a GP goal than a skill oriented goal. I want to see how hard it is to build riches in 2014 on a fresh account. 100M should be easy, but maybe if this goal is fun enough I'll go for something nuts like a Partyhat or something. I doubt the goal will get that intense, this is more of a fun + unique thing to do.

Not sure if you can do warbands or whatever its called ive never personally tried out the minigame but apparently you can sell the supplies for like 5M each? And you can do that 3 times a day i assume so if im correct your potential earnings could be 15m + a day

 

I've honestly never done Warbands but I heard it's not very easy to sell that stuff?

Anyone else have any input on this?

In my opinion, if you find money making by merchanting to be that easy and that it will ruin the fun by simplifying your goal too much, don't do it at all, set it in your rules.

Also, there's no difference in transferring a bond from your main account and paying for membership by cash. Maybe you could make it so that you have to pay for membership solely by bonds which you earn on your new account to make it more challenging.

Lastly, if your end goal is to make money, you should get your combat stats up and boss asap. Goodluck with your goal

 

Warbands is easy as fk. Just find an fc put their teamcape on and loot. And then just advert in fc selling. Should find a buyer pretty quickly

 

That's what I'm doing, I'm not going to merchant. Also, I want to earn gp on said account if I'm going to buy a bond. There's a difference to me because my main can spit out a bond whenever he wants, and that's not money earned by my noob account. Buying membership will rl money however was the way it was always intended, so I'm more comfortable giving the account p2p that way.

Right now gonna go pick some flax and turn into bs to get some noob gear to train.

 

Seems achievable, will you continue to play on this account whenever those goals are reached?

 

Any combat suggestions? Not anywhere near as slow at 07 but the initial training still very dry.

 

I've also started an alt account recently. I'm not doing any form of intentional Iron Man, but I don't plan on giving my alt anything from my main (I plan on using the GE for selling drops and whatnot since player-to-player trading isn't very popular anymore). However, I am not a P2P player yet; I want to wait for a while before I do that. I don't have a money goal, I just have some nostalgic gameplay in mind. Enough about me now.

Waterfiends are both nice XP and GP when you have the right levels for it. I'm not entirely sure of the hourly rates for either, but I do know when I did them for some 99 Ranged training, it added up quickly. I'd recommend doing Slayer honestly. It's really slow at first, but it's a great way to get your combat stats up and it is eventually a good GP method. It's really not so bad. You should keep a Slayer loot tab and sell it once you hit a certain level (and let us know the profit solely from Slayer: it would be cool to see).

This account has proven a lot harder than I thought. I think the big problem is that I don't have that energy that a new player would have. I don't have that urge to explore or to gain levels.

I need some good starter tips on getting levels, it's REALLY boring so far and I'm not enjoying it like I thought I would.

I feel like once I get to the levels capable of killing Green Dragons and such, it will get more fun. The initial grind...sucks. Lol.

 

I've never accumulated much gold on RS from the time I've spent playing, but you kind of make me want to give what you're doing a shot. Anyhoo, best of luck on reaching your goals!

Considering it. I have a few old accounts I never use that I might use instead of making a new account. One's a 1 def pure an the other's a level 3 skiller. Not a whole lot of stuff done to either account either. Just getting tired of playing on my main.

Haven't been on the account in ages, the initial grind of getting levels again was boring as hell. I'll get back to this account over winter break though.
