I believe that RuneScape is just gonna become even more microtransactions and a legitimate in game gambling method that only benefits the chinese. my bet is you'd see the same microtransactions from rs3 in 07 now too.

 

Literally nothing seeing as the game is going to continue to be run the same way it currently is by Jagex (most likely) as the company purchasing it is only acquiring it and keeping Jagex in charge of the game. It's just a bunch of overhyped hoopla that people are freaking out about. This kind of thing happens in the business world A LOT, and most of the time nothing changes, at least for a long time.

People are also overlooking the major Pros of the acquisition, one of which being a lot of money is going to be dumped into the game allowing for some serious potential updates

 

I think it's going to stay the same, during there Q&A a day or so ago they said they have full plans for the game for the rest of the year and we should have nothing to worry about.

If they're spending $300 million to buy Jagex, they have no incentive to just impose large amounts of microtransactions or do anything stupid that would hurt their investment. I only see positives in the acquisition as it would potentially open up RS to Chinese markets.

 

As stated. I think they wanna keep the playerbase and reach new customers. Implementing microtransaction would effectivly render their purchase a waste

I think you underestimate the chinese in a sense. Once RuneScape is ACTUALLY open to China, there will most likely be a flood of players and microtransactions are a huge thing in Asian countries when it comes to gaming. Look at Tencent, the gigantic Asian conglomerate that puts so many P2W aspects into their games.

 

Micro-transactions will increase, that's about all.
I can even see them changing rs3's hit splats like the one's from wow, simply because it's something eastern countries love.

apart from that with 300M invested I don't think they go to overboard in changing the game.

However if they touch oldschool, they'll fuck up 1/3-1/2 of the playerbase which could mean rip

 

All I know is that if they mess with the OSRS side of the community at all, most of the playerbase will get mad and RSPS's will become populated again.

 

RS3 has about double the playerbase that OSRS does, just based on active player numbers

 

The counter on the main RS page (assuming this is what you are referring to) includes OSRS players - right now OSRS actually has ~13k more people online. This number is inflated due to DMM hype though, the two modes usually have around the same numbers of players online.

Ahh I see, yea that's what I was looking at. Would make a lot more sense, I was always under the impression that OSRS was more popular if not equal in popularity to RS3 and was quite surprised myself when I saw the numbers on the homepage, thanks for the info

 

JaGex is expanding into the Chineese market and with that we WILL most definitely see an increase in microtransactions. Why? because microtransactions are popular in China and will boost profitibility significantly.

 

Mtx will increase and eventually there may be a way to buy accounts. Feel like that is the only thing missing lol

 

if one day there is a legit way to buy accounts, I'm going to go broke of buying accounts hahahaaaaa

So much cringe in this thread, also why start another thread when there is still one right next to this on the first page about the acquisition? This company buying it is not a game developer, they are a financial backer or investment firm. Nothing is going to change.

 

You're so insanely naive if you really think nothing will change lol doesn't matter what industry their buyer is in, assuming they'll have zero influence on the direction of RS is absurd.

If anyone's familiar with Asian MMO's, what comes to mind? Cash-shops, MTX. If everyone's sitting around the table with their thumbs up their asses believing that nothing is going to change, i'm going to sit here and laugh my ass off when in the next 1-2 years you see massive MTX changes.

So glad I cashed out of this game last year lol

 

I would think that it's more of just a rumor and people stressing over nothing. Just my personal opinion of course. I don't think they'll ruin 07 like that.
