Account sharing risks?

For example, say if I was in Canada and my friend was in Australia and we were sharing an account, is it something Jagex would take note of and eventually action against?

Like, If the account was logged in from Canada, then a few minutes later from the complete opposite side of the planet, would the system flag the account?

I've had this and never had an issue. If you don't want to leave it up to chance, I suggest not logging on for 5-6hrs after your friend logged out, this will help a lot (as you could technically just be travelling between the 2 countries)

It is unlikely but there is always a possibility. By doing so, you will always run the risk of being banned, albeit unlikely, or simply have your account locked.

 

Like others have said, I doubt they would take notice unless you we're high up on the high scores.

You may get a temporary security lock, which is annoying but you can get removed. But people use VPN's, travel, etc. You are unlikely to get banned for account sharing with your friend.

I have had an account be banned for "RWT'ing" when selling main rents to over 500 people.

The biggest risk imo is them hacking it, but if you're good friends is np.

 

My main account has a few marks due to account sharing(even though i was NOT account sharing, but changing my IP to different places due to other things I was doing haha), but it's all mute, not ban.



And 2 infractions for account sharing only got me this close to perm mute (however, be aware those infractions were in 2007, so its very possible the infractions may have a larger effect on the mute and/or ban level).

 

Your account sharing mutes we're likely for telling someone your password in-game, or talking about account sharing in-game. I may be off base, but I can't imagine you'd get muted for IP changes.

 

I had an account with multiple top page ranks and I was fairly well known by both players & jmods, yet I never had a problem until the original owner recovered it. I still play on another account with a rank 1 in a hi-score, no issues there either.

Nowadays I think you could get away with it unless you were in the top 100 overall or so. The only risks you have is the original owner recovering it and the actions of the person you share it with. The act of sharing it is pretty much harmless on its own.

 

People rent accounts on sythe, and from what I've seen, not too many problems regarding the account sharing offense. I do hear of locked accounts because of different ip logins, but those are easily resolved.

 

Unless your DDoSing and literally causing havoc you have nothing to worry about. The only thing is if the original owner decides to change the password one day you are fucked. That's pretty much the only risk. This could also be considered working 'for nothing' if the account isn't originally yours.

 

I should clarify that I am not whoring out my account to multiple individuals, just one account shared between two friends.

this is not a topic about trust or betrayal. My concern was about the risks of a possible account sharing detection system which according to the members here is not very likely to happen for us small fish, Which is great news for me! =D

That is possible. I honestly am not sure. lol. I can't actually remember if I was actively muted for awhile, or if it just added a small bit to my mute bar. 2007 was a LONG time ago when I can't even remember what I ate for lunch yesterday. lol

 

I doubt it, ive been playing RS for over 11 years now, classic mainly, and I'm in Portugal for 4 months of the year and have never had any issues.

 

Nowadays? Honestly, as long as you don't bot or RWT very heavily on the account you won't get banned. They've loosened banrates quite a lot.

 

No perfectly safe if you're doing safe activities (no botting, no rwting, etc.).

 

I've shared plenty of accounts and never had an issue.

Nope. If anything is 10x worse.

Been sharing with my buddy for about 12 years now.

No problems.

Lol well other than he jacked my bank a few times when we were both around 17 years old but no problems now were both 29
