    The Future of Runescape

Hey all, I'm just coming back from quite a break (few years) and I was wondering what some of the more active and veteran players think about the future of the game.

I've always been against dividing the community and Jagex has done it twice, with Darkscape and 07. I think both were great ideas but I see a problem with 07, it will just eventually die. No extra content. No promising future. It's still fun but I wonder how long that will last.

Darkscape I think is amazing as an idea, although I haven't tried it. I just hope the split doesn't effect the main game.

I haven't played in so long everything is still so new, I was curious what everyone though about the direction of the game.

    Not exactly.

RS3 is catering to the older crowd who has continued to play the game for a long time. They're focusing on higher end content, such as T90 weapons, high level bosses, etc. This will keep veteran players playing, but does little to draw in a new crowd to replenish old players as they quit. Therefore, as veterans slowly get bored and move on, RuneScape 3 will start to dwindle.

OSRS is actually seeming to make content to not only cater to existing veteran players, but also help lure in new players to start playing the game. While the graphics are obscene to many, OSRS is actually doing better right now, and has continued to trend upwards. 07 actually has more players online most of the time than RS3 now. So if either game is going to die, it'll be RS3 first.

Myself I don't like the game and I think the player base will drop down more and more, I don't see it ever come back (even if they continue adding new servers.)

I'm starting to like the game more than before.

Prior to this, I only preferred using the Black Market.

Nowadays I make pvp videos and do it the right way because of the risks involved with my top tier account.

My thought about not catering to the new crowd with content is that there is SO MUCH to do pre-80. I think what it would take would be more aggressive advertising and maybe a catch up mechanic. Although I see a lot of people getting pretty sour to something like that. Nostalgia and entitlement are huge traits in my players because they earned what they have.

I've been debating a switch to 07 but I'm still not sure just yet. I do miss being a zerker and shitting on everyone. I didn't know that 07 was doing as well as it is.

07 does get extra content and updates, it has it's own team at Jagex.

However, Jagex now operate on - IMO - a "dd buffs and MTX's every time the playerbase get bored" or "revert to 2012scape when in doubt"

07 server will soon surpass main game and then who ever the fuck funds jagex will realize they are a bunch of retards and close down the whole operation

I just saw the Deadman mode.... seriously splitting the community again?

I wish they added it into the original 07 server. Maybe see people running around with a certain icon over their head, indicating they are Deadman. But I guess you couldn't balance economy that way.

They're thought is that catering to different crowds will attract a bit more users, while convincing current players to continue, as they not have options at different gameplay, which makes it more difficult to get bored. Don't quote me on this, but I believe since the release of 07, the number of players online, in total, has slowly gone up.

Well I plan on switching to 07 eventually. Just have to get the motivation to start over.

i think that 07 will surpass the live game. unless some drastic changes come to RS3. i just think they made the game overcomplicated and theres TOO much dead content, TOOOOOO much

Jagex dug their own grave, should never of introduced Eoc rushed the game forward so much and they could have introduced updates much slower as 07 is doing to increase the life of the game.

Games been slowly dying for years. 07 brought back a few players like me but the nostalgia wore off quickly... Runescape is still alive because of the gambling/staking = money. Jagex either has to accept it or continue choking themselves out.

Completely agree with this. If there was no money in playing RS or even having an active account, most wouldn't play the game. Tbh it's really not that fun. The prospect of making profit is the only reason I still have the client downloaded. 07 was great for nostalogia for about 6 months but I have no motivation to play anymore.

They dug their own graves, can't say I'll care at this point when it finally goes under. Bad decision after bad decision.

Also they're hugely outclassed by every modern MMO. Didn't realize how badly until I started playing some others recently.

They should just bring gambling back which will get 90% of the playerbase back too.

This so much... they killed Runescape for me back in 2011-2012 haha, so since 2013 NO EOC/RS3 shit for me. It's so boring, huuuge areas that are always empty and dead content, i agree with others, they did dig their own grave, it was doing good from 2008-2010 even though it wasn't being drastically changed like with EOC.. 07 won't die for some time, it seems to be stable at 29-32k. But I won't play it cause it got boring after they killed the classic aspect of it, socialising, G.E just makes it boring for me, now nobody hangs anywhere except from there and just... it doesn't have the same 07 feel as pre-g.e

So yus... future of runescape? Idk, none? WoW will always have a few million but RS ... Idk.

If they just kept RS like it was in 2011 with little changes .. it'd probably have been better today. But nobody actually wanted RS3+EOC seeing as so manyyyyyy quit! haha
