    The nostalgia is unreal

I was reading http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Completionist_cape and it struck me how unreal to see how far this game has come. I haven't played runescape (in the sense of playing it) since Runescape 2 came out. I quit because my computer at the time wasn't strong enough to handle the game.

I remember throwing my hands up in the air when I beat the dragon to be able to wear the rune plate.

I remember when RS2 came out and everyone logged in and saw they had no items and it was a massive shit fest. Jagex offered a one time deal to transfer items back to runescape classic but no way to transfer them back to rs2.

I remember fighting three goblins in this little house in Lumb for hours, upon hours, day after day, collecting gold from kills and a small 3 coin gold spawn to be able to afford a mith battle axe. I never left lumb because I was afraid to die and lose it.

I remember making a promise to my parents to mow the lawn whenever they asked me to, and I would without question, as long as they'd pay the 5$ a month for membership. They agreed and my first time logging into a member server was so amazing. I went straight to Karmaja and went past the gate. I ended up dying because I didn't know about poison. There was no such thing as poison on a non member server. I lost all my items, I was so furious.

I haven't followed the game, or know which direction it's heading, but still seeing the development and the level of new content is overwhelming as I would never be able to get back into the game.

I don't know what kind of mood I'm in, or why I'm even typing this... But just looking at the game now is... just wow. I can't even type the proper words to explain the nostalgia.

I'm 24 now with a baby girl coming in April. My gaming days have long been over. Time is amazing.

Thanks for sharing man always nice to hear these kinds of stories. It really is quite amazing when you stop to think not only how long it's been since we first started playing RS, but as you said..the evolution of the game.

Sometimes it literally doesn't even feel like RS. I don't blame you for leaving the game or gaming in general. I can feel myself starting to become the same way honestly.

I remember ragequitting to begin with before I even left tutorial island because I couldn't figure out the camera controls. RuneScape was the first PC game I ever played, and the arrow keys weren't even a concept to me. It's funny to think back.

It's also sad, because I remember having a real sense of motivation to go to the library after school and get the next quest done, get those dragon platelegs and so on. Just seems like there's no motivation to the game any more.

I'm looking at it again and I just can't figure out how anyone could start this game today. Without any previous knowledge of the game, it seems like it would be impossible to get into.

It is impossible. Thats why Jagex raised membership prices to "retain current Runescape/Veterans"

I know I definitely wouldn't pick RS up nowadays if I hadn't played previously because of how extensive it can be. I definitely miss the old days, when there was motivation to play. Now my motivation is to max my account so I actually don't have to play. I wanna start on one of my old low leveled accounts once I max so I can feel the low level accomplishments and redo fun quests etc. RuneScape was definitely a fun past time, but the game has developed into a business rather than a fun family- and community-feeling game. You could ask anyone back in elementary and middle school, and they knew what a RSN was because they were players themselves.

It really is strange to think about how long the game has been going on. The playerbase is so much different than when I started playing 10 years ago.

That's the reason I play OSRS. The only thing that has the same enjoyment as back in Rs2 back in 2006 :) I'm 21 and I'm still playing this but the only thing that brought me BACK is 2007-scape. ;) Else I would be gone already and back to WoW :)

I lost interest in actually playing the game early on, around 2008. OSRS really helped me get back into the game, the simplicity reminded me of when I played as a kid.

Two of the things I'll always remember when I first started playing, grinding chickens/goblins/whatnot around Lumbridge to make my first 500GP from the general shop, went to meet my IRL mate who had just started playing and some high leveled Member had given him 10K as soon as he got off Tutorial Island, bloody lucky!

Second strong memory was a few months down the track, I was running past those yew trees south of the Beehives and Flax near Catherby when I saw someone woodcutting in full ghostly robes. I stopped and asked how did he get them? Where could I get some? His response was ''It doesn't matter cos you will never get them, noob.'' I've done DT over 50 times since then hahaha.

I remember bluerose13x being the biggest bitch in runescape classic, just because she was the only one who could smith rune 2handers. Wanted unreasonable shit like 2k nature runes or like 100 rune ore for a rune 2hander (Nature runes were incredibly hard to get, not like now where they can be crafted/thieved).

Dude I'm maxed with 120 dung. I know what having no motivation to grind feels like. I'll never be competitive on the highscores (and don't care to be). I don't really have any desire to grind out the tasks or completionist cape requirements. I don't have the gear to PvM right now (sold my gold) but I'd get bored of that within a few hours. PK'ing is fucked in RS3 and I've never been a real pker. Pair all that with being unsatisfied with the direction of RS3 and I log in just to MM or maybe do an hour of something and log off.

I recently started an 07 account and put some gold onto it. Hoping I can eek some enjoyment out of actually progressing and trying the unique content.

I also remember back in 2006, the REAL RS times! I had like 3k, and in my eyes (i was like level 5-15ish) it was like MILLIONS! Then I died and got super angry, cause I thought I was rich!

another time, later in 2006, I was around lvl 15 and was in Varrock, Varrock FULL of people trading and such, unlike how it will be after G.E comes to OSRS :c but anyway, I SOMEHOW got 150k, and that was the HIGHEST amount I EVER had until 2010 . LOL
