Runescape Membership Cost increased to $9.49

Starting March 1. Veteran members get to keep their current subscription cost.

 

Absolutely ridiculous. Runescape is nowhere near worth that monthly cost, I really don't care about grandfathered rates either because 90 percent of people will invariably have a lapse in membership somewhere and lose it.

What a colossal rip off honestly.

 

Agreed. I understand that they hope this will increase the purchases of long term membership packages (especially their premier packages), but this will likely heavily impact the number of new players willing to join the game and pay such a high price for membership. Bad move.

If the content of 2014 was really, really compelling and amazing (spoiler alert: It wasn't besides Elf City), then maybe a price increase would be good.

But in the age where games like Elder Scrolls Online go completely free + eliminate subscription cost to 0, Jagex yet again increases their price to near 66 percent of World of Warcraft costs (And Blizzard is even considering lowering that!) The arrogance of Jagex, though it doesn't need to be exemplified because it already has been a million times, really shines through here.

Also if you factor in other monthly costs people make for entertainment (Netflix, WoW, other MMO's, XBL/PSN etc.), this price increase is even more annoying.

Yeah, I should be too, played since 05. I vividly remember a brief period where I lost membership and my dad hated RS and I was too young to get it any other way. Membership lapsed, went to the new price. :sick:

Sucks too would be cool having an 05 badge on the official forums.

 

Damn, sucks that I cancelled my membership when I quit before. I would of kept my membership cost.

 

Buy it before March and you can keep the old cost

 

damn, seems like they are dwindling and they can't keep up with the finances of the entire company. i do agree with the above with the grandfathered memberships someone will relapse, even if by accident and loose the rate.

 

I remember paying $5/mo. However, I pay $7/mo. now? I want to at least max my account. Then I don't care after that. I have more important things to worry about as is. If Jagex wants to kill their game, so be it. But there will always be those people who accomodate to their shitty updates and price increases (and it encourages vets to not give up their long-running, cheaper memberships--a way to keep them around even if they want to leave for a little while). A lot of players, when they take a break, don't cancel their membership simply for the reason that they don't want to come back a month or two later and have to pay nearly double of what they were paying years ago. Jagex is a bunch of idiots from what I can tell lmao.

 

They probably made a loss of Transformers Universe.

 

Oh they definitely did. An absolutely humongous loss. Probably millions.

 

Jagex are really fucking themselves.

Quality of the game goes down while micro-transactions and monthly fees go up.

I'm out for good unless there is a drastic change in the future.

 

People should look into buying gold then buying bonds with the gold, it is much cheaper.

Perhaps Jagex is just trying to get people to stop playing the game... yet we keep playing it... even though every update that have is awesome (with the exception that every update that they have has a critical flaw, just to piss every one off)... yet we keep playing it...

They already increased it once, and now they're doing it again? $9.49 is ridiculously high.

I'm glad I don't play runescape. Their playerbase has dwindled, game hasn't really improved and they're trying to squeeze as much as they can from players.

 

Less players, higher charge. Supply and demand bros.
