    Hey everybody, I have been looking around for sources of information on Runescape's userbase numbers. For my business, it's obviously very relevant information. While the sentiment among players tends to be that the game is dying, from what I have seen the game is actually growing in 2014.

    This chart shows total live active users (RS2007 + RS3) and also RS2007 live users. One could also extrapolate RS3 users by subtracting RS2007 totals from the total live active users value.

    What we can see from this graph is that total live active users was between 20-30K last year between September and November. This year, those numbers are between 30-40K. That's an extremely significant increase of about 40% from 2013-2014. This growth seems to be relatively evenly distributed between RS3 and RS2007.

    Let me know what you guys think of these statistics, and let me know if you have anymore resources to similar data.

    Interesting, it is a pretty significant increase and that is with Jagex being extremely tough on botting. The game obviously isn't at its' levels of play in 2007, but Runescape has reinvented itself and can potentially draw in new, younger players alongside older players that did play back in 2007.

    Nice seeing actual stats,I wonder how much the game will continue to grow and if it has the potential of reaching its' old level of players.

    Idk, I miss the days of 100k+ players on after I got out of school haha. You log in and see 1500+ players in everyone of the first 5-10 worlds.

    Exactly correct + good analysis. I feel like Jagex's platform is catered towards the future player, NOT the veteran player and maybe not even the current player.

    Will be interesting to see if members at this time next year increase again.

    Very useful information. The game is very steady atm and the growth isn't very much, but at least it isn't dying.

    I can't speak for the osrs increase, but I'm sure the rise in rs3 activity was caused in large part by the increased influence that the players now have on content. The Power to the Players polls that were implemented a while back get a lot of negative criticism, but I've found them to be very effective.

    Divination, quests, Elf City, boss releases/reworks, and skill mastery capes are just a handful of updates that have been heavily influenced by players' responses in these polls. Players are getting a say in the way rs3 develops, and that, combined with things like ironman mode and double xp weekend, tells me that the game isn't anywhere close to dying.

    Compare that to 2011, 30-40k is absolute shit. I hope to see them take significant financial losses for their numerous mistakes. Once their wallet is in jeopardy maybe they'll change the way that they do things.

    Good to see that the game is actually growing, hopefully we would see a more active and friendly rs community, that'll make the game even more fun

    I remember seeing 200,000 players online on the homepage a few years ago. I still hope they change OSRS to F2P aswell one day.

    Osrs is f2p. You can create an account and play free to play for as long as you want.

    F2p worlds are 381, 382 and 383, and there are 2 more worlds I believe.

    Its still quite different. As I stated, I don't think it'll ever be the same. Dual wielding and stuff just ruined it for me.
