Location change lock?

Do Jagex lock accounts based on a drastic location change? If not, what else do they lock for?

 

I've personally logged on accounts in different countries multiple times, never had an issue.

 

I don't think that they lock accounts for a location change, I bought a couple of accounts 1 year ago and the original owner is from finland and im from hungary and some of the accounts was not even locked once, I don't know why they lock it.

 

So it would have to be an attempted recovery of some sort?

Someone must've know your details and attempted an recovery. You only get an account "Lock" if you ask for it, or if you're a PMOD and move away to a different country without telling them (this is currently being considered and might be changed).

Did you buy the account? If yes, then the original owner did something to get his account back.

they wont lock it for location change at all. maybe they will ban you if they suspect account sharing or something. but other than that, no

 

I don't even think account sharing is under reportable options any more, do they still punish for that?

^ That gives me confidence that it's an IP thing. I haven't broken any rules on it.

 

The "they won't lock it for location change at all" is NOT accurate. I've had accounts locked that were my friends and not long after they were locked by Jagex after seeing the drastic location change. So it's definitely possible. My friend ended up recovering the account and nothing was taken off of it, so definitely was a location thing in my situation.

 

As Wukn Gold said logging into your account with a vpn can result in it getting locked I have had it happen to me numerous times.

 

Yes they will, but only if it's an unusual one. If you're frequently logging from different countries (But the same location in each) they don't seem to take any notice of it. However, if someone starts to use it from a different country then sometimes they will. Especially if it's an IP with a dodgy background.

The most common reason for a lock is someone tried to manually recover your account and failed, so they locked it to stop anyone being able to access it - Which also lets the original owner come forward (if the failed recovery was by a hacker) and un-lock the account, pretty much verifying that the failed recovery was an attempt to hijack the account.

 

I've sold an account where the IP was originally in the U.S. and when the buyer (from a different country) bought it, it got locked. I was able to recover it and give him the new info. It hasn't been locked since.

 

It can get locked if someone from a different country tries to recover it. Which is why recovery tests were useless at one point, even if the details were correct it would more likely get locked than pass.

 

If you had a drastic location change and it gets locked, you probably won't be able to unlock it from your new ip unless your able to teamview someone near your location or talk to a jmod giving details on your situation including your old ip. Something like this happened to me before when I bought an account, and the person I bought it off of had to teamview a friend.
